I have tried a ton of choppers and machetes. The Darean Esee is the perfect size weight and the handle is amazing. Anyone else think this $100 blade is the answer for trails and shelter building ?

How much do you like the handle? A lot of US knife makers like to get a fairly lightweight blade from a Latin maker, put a nice handle on it and a sheath, and sell a $15 machete for a hundred bucks. It might be an answer. For me, not THE answer.
Skrama 240 with a nice leather dangler sheath is about the same money, a hard knife to beat, IMO.

My go-to machete is a Fiddleback Forge 16 inch, which I like a lot. I don't think they are made in that length anymore.

It's 1075 steel, 0.1 inch stock, with a wide blade at the end, giving it a lot of power.

For me, a 12 inch blade would be too short. And the handle on the Darean lacks a footer to prevent slipping.

Lots of cheap machetes out there, but I liked the extra quality and leather sheath. The Darean looks like a quality blade.

Blade is not flimsy like some and the edge holds up. The handle shape locks in and is ideal for cutting soft vegetation here in the NW

Maybe off topic here, but what I prefer for a machete is a leuku knife from ahti or Roselli especially the larger leukus are essentially smaller machetes, more than capable tools, rat tail tang isn't a hindrance

I do like a large knife
The esee has remarkable forward weight for its overall light weight but not to clumsy for brush and vines we have in the pnw

I think Fiddleback forge, like ESEE machete, it’s made by Imacasa, like Condor ones.

Condor is sweet
But so far nothing I have found beats the handle on the esee
They all chop
