I always read and hear the confusion between understanding the difference between an ESEE knife and an Ontario Knife. I truly hard used both and want buyers to fully understand before laying down hard earned cash. If the better No questions asked Warranty is not enough let me fill you in on the details. Esee knife- better coating and lasts much longer to protect 1095 carbon steel. Esee knife-will for a fact hold an edge longer and is tougher due to some kick ass new heat treatment specially designed for 1095 by Rowen. Esee knife micarta handles are contoured around the edges perfectly and create much less user fatigue and sharp areas around the handle. Ontario handles are square high production slabs, Ouch. To top it off I feel less shock from the knife when batoning because of those little green shock absorbing spacers between the handles, Genius. I don't know for sure but it seems that Jeff Randall and Mike Perrin saw their last day of compromise when they teamed up with Rowen. I will not compromise either when it comes to a tool this important and I don't think anyone should when you don't need too. I really hope this helps people make the right choice when money is tight. KNIFEABILITY-a must for all humans

No rat pack number needed. I am new and will run out of pent up knife thoughts soon. I promise. Many people that are new find this out the hard way and some cannot afford the mistake. Most people here are highly knowledgeable and made the right choice already. Some truly do not know the difference since R.A.T. cutlery designed the Ontario as well. KNIFEABILITY-a must for all humans

I own the RAT-3, an Izula, an RC-4 and an RC-5. The Ontario produced knife has worse edge retention and came with a much worse edge. There is no doubt in my mind that the slightly higher price tag is MORE than justified when it comes to the ESEE/Rowen knives.

Frankly, I'm glad he posted this. The word needs to be spread more. Outside of this forum, there are MANY people who think that that crappy company Ontario's knives are in some way the same as ESEE.

It's a testament to the jacked up legal system we have that Ontario can still make knives called RAT.
