ESEE RC-3 canvas micarta scales available for purchase as an accessory

In November of 2009 I was traveling in Central America with a copy of Tactical Knives magazine which highlighted the ESEE/DPX H.E.S.T. The more I read about the knife, the more I wanted one.

Since then I've acquired the H.E.S.T., an OD Izula (with scales) and an RC-3. I really like the checkered canvas micarta scales that came with the H.E.S.T. and which I added to the Izula. I don't care for the non-checkered scales which I believe to be linen micarta that came on the RC-3 I purchased and only recently discovered that both the RC-3MIL and RC-3 in desert tan appear to come with checkered canvas micarta scales.

So, getting to the point, is anyone aware of a way to purchase the canvas micarta scales separately so that I could get the same fantastic grip on an RC-3 that I already enjoy with the aforementioned ESEE knives?

Yep. they just come with an entire RC3-mil attached to them.

(the scales are custom fit to the knife during production, thus not avail stand alone)

Yeah, your gonna just have to buck up and buy a ESEE 3 MIL, which comes with canvas micarta scales.
 
It'd be great if they sold the scales separately - would have loved the canvas RC5 scales on the RC6...
 
Jeff has said that they're not interested in selling scales separately, for fit and finish reasons. I wouldn't hold my breath. :)
 
Yea, it's not going to happen. The scales are machined on the tang of the knife for final fitting.

That step is one of the reasons that you always hear that the fit and finish on the ESEE knives is better than "the others".

In order to maintain that level of refinement on a replaceable scale, we would need to allow the tang to protrude from the scales and Jeff wasn't happy with the feel that that gave the knife so the idea was scrapped.

I just bought extras and swapped them.now my 5 has linen and my 6 has canvas.
