Bearthedog, aka Reuben, aka a damn good friend of mine, asked me if it was Ok for this info, to go here in the BKT forum. I told him hell yeah it was.

SO, ya'll West Coasters might want to give this a look. This will be Reuben's first solo class as an ESEE instructor, and he's one of the best. Reza has got some great skills too, so, if you're West Coast and have been wanting to attend, here you go, and its a great price too.

3 Day Basic Survival Class

When: November 11-13 2011

Our goal is to provide people of all fitness levels with basic survival skills in a mountainous environment. This will cater to those who want to get their feet wet and start learning some skills or refresh them. Although some things like shelter materials and fire materials will be terrain specific, most of the skills will translate to the rest of the world.

Gear List
Keep it simple with extra attention to clothing. Bring plenty of cold weather clothing as the high elevation is prone to wind, and even snow around this time of the year. Make sure you have at least the following: Cutting Tool (knife/machete), Fire Starting Tool (Magnesium bar, Ferrocium Rod), Compass, Signaling Mirror, Whistle, Water Container (preferably metal), 550 cord, Water Filter or Water Purification Tabs, Space Blanket or Tarp. A Camera and/or Journal for notes.
Bring what you have. If you have a knife, we’ll show you how to use it. If you have a machete or hatchet, we’ll show you how to use it. Also, if you don’t have something, don’t sweat it.
Bring all food and snacks you wish to eat. Food can be cooked in the camp.

Schedule:
Day 1 (Friday)- Meet at trailhead 9 am. Short hike to camp, student put up their own shelter, be it tent/bivy/tarp/hammock. First Aid, Navigation, Knife Safety and Use, Fire Making.
Day 2 (Saturday)- Shelter, Traps, Knots, Students Make Campfire.

DAY 3 (Sunday)- Make Water Filter, Signaling.

Price $250

Wow that is a good price. Any chance of doing a NW course?

Not sure, I'll ask Reuben and see. Knowing him, if there are people there, willing, he'd do it.

Moose

Big time fun there. Not a bad price for some skills that would last a lifetime either.

Thanks for posting this Moose. You know how we do it---Hobo camp all the way!

We need a few “do-ers” that want to have a good time and learn a few skills!

Anyone even thinking about it, needs to pull the trigger, lemme tell ya why.

Reuben is one of the best outdoorsmen I have had the honor to spend time with. He's a great guy, funny as hell, and knows TONS about survival and wilderness skills.

He's a world traveler with tons of great stories, and pictures to back them up.

In the world of ultralight, minimalist camping/hiking/survivalcraft, there are few better.

Its HIS hometurf, so, if you are within a 6hr drive of the spot, you're gonna learn TONS.

Reza is a fearless, repeat, fearless outdoor enthusiest, and funny as hell as well. During this years woodland course, he was first in on everything, not to mention he caught, killed, and ate a cottonmouth, by dragging it outta its nest hissing, and striking. No shit on that one.

$250 will buy you an adventure of a lifetime, that you will never forget, I promise you that.

Really, the only thing that would make this course any better, is if I was there instructing as well. :D

Give it a go, you won't regret it.

Moose

Thanks for the kindness Moose.

For all you who don’t know, Reza is the guy in the Randall’s Adventure & Training ad that ran in Tactical Knives Magazine. He is the guy who is roasting the snake over a fire. We have spent plenty of time here tromping around the deserts, and the mountains, catching snakes, sleeping under widow makers, taking photos, and testing gear. Ya, we don’t recommend sleeping under widow makers or chasing snakes. Anyhow, Reza has done a few survival courses since the Alabama course and spent a lot of time in Idaho too. He’s hardcore and FEARLESS is but one way to describe him. He’s just a natural athlete!

Oh ya, Moose is my friend!

Hey Moose,

I second Reuben - THANKS!

I strongly urge anyone interested in Survival and Self Reliance take this course!

Were teaching how to get out your ass out of sticky situations as well as some primitive stuff to make your time in the bush more enjoyable!

Oh yeah, there's a chance you might be going home with some new gear as well:D

how often do these courses happen? I'd love to get in on that, but I can't take time off so early into my new job for this go round.

This one starts on Veteran's Day, which is a holiday--- some people may have the day off.

Not me, only thing that sucks about this new job so far. I can't complain though, I think this job is going to end up being pretty awesome. Plus, I might even have some cash for a couple knifes once I pay off my school bill!

You will work for the rest of your life. Get a few war stories for youself!
This is meant for people who need to take some time to reconnect with nature and themselves. Meant to be a fun way of learning and having a good time.

If you guys can get a class together in Oregon, count me in. Can't make it to this one, but it looks like an awesome adventure!

Come to Oregon, I may be able to secure a location for you guys.

This isn't the circus. We are not on tour.:D
This will be the closest RAT Training class to you guys in Oregon. Usually they are held in Alabama and Peru!
I myself would sure like to Oregon.
