How is it possible to get a knife like the 5 that is as thick as a prybar but can sharpen like a lightsaber with a few quick flicks on the diamond stone! I got my esee 5 today..another fantastic blade. Came sharp but I like polished edges. Thought to myself, do I have an hour to spare to sharpen this thing? Why not. After a few swipes on the coarse stone, a burr had formed? Flip it over, same again. Switch to fine, same thing both sides, razor sharp polished edge. Having sharpened many many many knives before, I dont thing I have sharpened one as easy as that. My second esee and I continue to massively impressed with this brand. What really impressed me was that I didnt have to thin the edge to get it razor sharp. Well done guys.

Thanks for the comments. The 5 will get pretty sharp even though it has some pretty obtuse geometry going on :)

The 5 has a lot of junk in the trunk, but it can clean up nice and still come home and meet the parents.

I agree with everything stated so far. The 5 is an animal like few others.

After some use I did opt to thin my edge a bit and it is still tougher than I probably need. There are a lot of preconceptions about this knife, but if you are willing to learn to use it, it can do just about anything. I have tried some silly stuff and I can tell you it holds that edge pretty well...and polishing seems to only improve that quality.

I think my knife is a little conflicted...it looks like it has been beat to hell, but it has this nice shiny strip of edge that looks a little too pretty;)

Jgon,

Man, I just can't get by that avatar you have. That's juts plain scary.

Yea I got my 5 just the other day. Hair popping sharp outta the box! My GF thinks I'm a weirdo as I have no hair on my knees and legs from sharpening and checking the edge. That is what owning four ESEE's (Izzy, 3mil, HEST, and 5) will do to you. Can't wait to put the 5 to use!

Just got done ordering my 5 this morning. Should be here by thursday, I am going away for christmas, and we are going to butcher some lambs, was hoping to be able to use it.

Kinda reminds me of my ex mother-in-law the day I told her I wanted to marry her daughter . . .
Should have taken the hint right then and there . . . . :D
Be safe.

I noticed the same thing when i convexed my izula this weekend, very easy to get these knives sharp.

6 would be better for the butchering, with the 5 good for breaking the bones

the 5 was my first ESEE and it's on my hip, as i write this. it's my edc, i'm really impressed with it. as beefy as it is, it's still a good slicer. i eat a lot of peperoni and cheese an use the 5 to slice both. i won't carry equipment i can't trust, i'm confident the 5'll do whatever i need it to. in fact, the only downside i've seen is.... it's made me buy more ESEE's :D
