Whats up.
Just got my ESEE Zancudo yesterday. Love the knife. But quickly found out after a couple minutes of employing the knife that it killed my thumb. By the time I switched my pocket clip over from tip down to tip up, it got worse. The Lockbar was so stiff that my thumb had to use way too much pressure than necessary. (Notice I said the lockbar was stiff and notsticking)
I also saw that there was literally no jimping on the lockbar and in fact there was nothing but a sharp, square edge. I don't have weak hands. This lockbar was just too sharp and discomfortable out of the box.
So I decided to strip the knife down. I bent the lockbar outward to relieve tension on it. Did this and worked it in a few times. I took 120 grit sandpaper and sanded that sharp edge of the lockbar (where the thumb contacts). Reassembled the knife and saw that it now has probably 70% lockbar contact as opposed to 100% out of the box.
Sanding the little chamfer on the lockbar helped tremendously with the discomfort. Damn, it was like a dagger cutting into my thumb every time I struggled to disengage the blade. Tension is better. I have the Rat 2 and I contemplated which is better. I'm leaning towards the Rat 2 now. I know its a $30 blade. But damn, those lockbars should have came sanded from the factory or had jimping on them for grip. And the tension OOTB is ridiculous. At least for my blade. I ordered from bladeHQ btw.
Just thought I would share my experience to help anyone out if they are struggling with the same issue.
Peace
