Great review , sadiejane. I like what you wrote , and agree with it all. I got my 5 two weeks ago and used it in the bush. It performed excellent. Yup ,she's a weighty one , but the payoff is a no-fail knife. I'm a big fan of the 5 and it will always go with me on bush trips ( my main carry is the 4 though , for general tasks.) But the 5 is there as my back-up . nice job.:thumbup:

I share your mentality hiwa-it's heavy but it performs and the benefits outweigh the downsides. If you pack a small companion blade in addition you're good to go.
 
The 5 is one of the knives I would be sure to grab if I needed a tough knife. It is one great piece of steel.
