Nice, I actually like the desert tan look of the unstripped blade vs. the black, but both are good.

Two questions:

- How did you do it?

- How come the logos etc. stayed ok?

Thanks,

Al

ETA: Shame on you for teasing us with the highly misleading thread title! It's Friday, man, have you no shame? :)

Nice, I actually like the desert tan look of the unstripped blade blade is stripped ,that is just uncoated steel look which will rust if not maintained vs. the black, but both are good.

Two questions:

- How did you do it? paint stripper ,took 5 minutes & used razor blade to lift paint up

- How come the logos etc. stayed ok? laser etched into metal

Thanks,

Al

Just remember uncoated 1095 requires more work to keep rust at bay. Reason I am gun blueing mine over weekend

Thanks! I wasn't planning on stripping mine since I buy them desert tan colored, if I can. I'm a die hard desert rat.

Thanks,

Al

It's not Desert tan that is the lighting.... it is bare metal exposed to Air which if left untreated will rust.
Just want you to be fully in the know.. if you do it and left untreated will rust.

The finish is sandblasted before the coating is applied to help it adhere to the metal.

Thats why it looks like that, its a rough texture. It also leaves billions and billions of pits that moisture can sit in and rust the blade.

Some sand paper and polish will go a long way to keep the rust away. Couple that with a decent mustard patina and your in pretty good shape.

Get some buffing compound and put a nice mirror finish on it TTD. :D

Oh and ban yourself for alluding to strippers and delivering this!

not to hip on mirror finishes and this was the correct term for the Strippers I was talking about,I just left out "paint"
:D

your tittle threw me way off,

but i was still happy with the results.

any reason why you left the racing strip on the bottom of the blade there? ;)
