EsKabar at the Beach and Splittin' Wood with the 14

Took my son to the beach again, this timeiI brought along my Bk14 EsKabar. My stripped EsKabar. With saltwater. We'll see how that went...

So here are the pics. An unusual occurrence happened while we were there, our beach got covered with Velellas, a type of jellyfish.

So I wiped the blade with nothing but my shirt and put it back in its sheath. I didn't get home until 4 hours later. And guess what? My knife didn't rust away. Prior to going to the beach, I put a little bit of chapstick on the blade for protection and I think it worked very well.

Ok, found an old piece of wood on our property that needed to be chopped up.

Looks cool! Great pics, Man I've got to take the time to figure out how to post pictures, again. So, did you chemically strip the blade, or mechanically?

Thanks, the Bk14 is an incredibly strong blade for its size. Just used it again today to open up a can of tuna since our can opener is broke. It handled it with no problems, and maybe a bit faster than using the can opener.

Good stuff! Glad you didn't bend the 14 splitting that knot...

You're brave picking up those velellas - unless you're already familiar with 'em. I went to Pismo Beach late winter/early spring of '89 and they were covering it. Things looked like jellies so I was very careful not to touch any.
Good to know they're essentially harmless.
