esKabar Finish??

I bought my dad an esKabar today & noticed the new finish.. The old finish was flat and almost painted on but the new one is more textured.. Like a ESEE knife. Is this a recent thing?

The laser etch and textured finish have been around for about two years. Perhaps one of the Moderators can be more specific on the timeline.

Thank you.. Is this esKabar with the old sheath that dulls the knife or the new on? Is there a way to tell the difference??
