I really like the Eskabar, just wish it had the longer handle like the Izula II, sooooo ... made me one.

These handles were originally going on my Izzy II, but just never finished it and while it's a good knife, the blade is just a wiska' small.
What can I say, I know Izula is a REAL popular knife, just like the 14 better.

Longer handle and the bigger blade. Put a small extention on the back of the handle to fill the gap.

Wood is teak. Someone here just posted some handles without hardware, I thought it was pretty slick, so gave it a try.

(and no need to tell me I butchered the gimping - tried to fix it and made it worse, but you will NEVER slip off it - LOL )

Anyway ... The Eskabar II

Bit of a tutorial on how I got here

Origially cut the handle blanks last spring. Same time I made a set for the ESEE 4 (just never finished the Izzy's)

Started with your basic Eskabar and the blanks

Sanded off the black coating

Added the gimping and squared the spine

Gave it a quick semi polish

Tried it with a quick wrap - may have to get a couple more of these :D

Back to the handles. Shaped them on the belt sander - clamped upside down in the vice

Fashioned a small piece for the extention - gives a good idea of the addtional length (doesn't seem like much, but gives a 4 finger grip)

Apoxy and clamped the whole mess together

Rought shape everything (belt sander again)

Finish sand and clean

Apply sealant and done - One custom Eskabar II with extended Teak handles

It ain't perfect, but not bad. Thanks for looking.

That looks pretty slick, I hope you don't run into any problems with the handles not being pinned.

Thinking the same thing the whole time. Figured I try it anyway.

Can always fix/change 'em if it gives me probs.

Couple pins might look good too.

Nice work. I'll bet that makes a big difference in grip.

Looks very cool. Pins shouldnt be an issue as long as there isnt a strong lateral or vertical jolt. Nice work

Looks good man, you got a really nice contour with that belt sander. I made a set that way (with a sander like that) and know it can be a little tricky.
