I'm sure someone has posted this before, but I couldn't find a very helpful thread.

I love my Eskabar which was just purchased, and I wrapped the handle with paracord. It helped the grip out, but it just isn't quite enough. I feel like it would be alot more comfortable with some scales. I saw a guy who makes the aluminium and titanium ones, but I'm not looking for something metal. Sweat/Water+metal=Slippery. I also saw a guy who made his own micarta scales, but they just seemed a little too bulky and large for my liking. I searched the internet several times in search of perhaps some sort of production of scales for the BK14 but no luck.

My question is, is there a website I'm missing or something? Also, I'm not sure if this should go in this forum or not, but is there someone out there that would be interested in making some scales for me? I'd prefer something not metal or wood. I was leaning toward micarta or something like that.

Should I give up on searching for scales and perhaps just double, possibly triple, wrap the handle in paracord?

Thanks ahead of time, guys. Any advice is welcome.

There are scales for the Izula, which will fit with some minor trimming. 10 minutes with an exacto knife and you're good to go. There are rumors that Ka-Bar is working on some grivory scales for the BK14.

guess you missed this :D

from the blade database :)

the short form: esee izula micarta handles with a few minutes of trimming will fit the eskabar like a champ

search around some more on this forum, you'll probably see more examples, but that pretty much covers it.

I saw this thread, but I figured maybe there was some out there I wouldn't have to "mod" to fit. Also, I'd like it if they were full scales, including the hole in the grip aswell. I may just have to settle for the Izula scales though.

Ask Sh@rp (the metal scale guy), he said he'd make some out of G-10 of micarta if wanted.

That's who makes the metal scales, and I was hoping that perhaps he would hop in on this thread and perhaps give me some input. I wasn't sure if he was into the whole G-10 or micarta thing. I'll try to send him a PM and see what he says about some.

I've used my Esky with Sh@rp's metal scales with sweaty hands and the texturing kept it from getting slippery. They're not very grippy, but the texturing keeps them from slipping out. I do have an update that if you use it for extended periods of time, the corners (which are rounded) tend to make my hand tired (not hot spots), then again I have small Asian hands. I'd love it if he offers up a G10 alternative.

well, you can settle, or you can wait, or you can bug sh@rp :) metal or otherwise, the grip is pretty solid.

the mod is super easy. i used the tip of a needle to score and go. it's the tiniest amount of material to remove. fits nice and provides a solid grip.

even micarta gets slippery sometimes. the shape is the real key to not sliping imho.

KaBar really needs to get product out the door.

To mod the Izula scales, all you have to cut is the red "liners" that fit inside the handle, not the micarta. It is so easy to do, you can mess it up and they will still work.

Thanks alot for the help, guys. I'm still going to try to send Sh@rp a PM about some G10 scales or something, but I may just end up trying the whole Izula scales mod.

I bought the Izula micarta scales and really don't like them much. Doesn't extend the whole length of the handle and are really blocky compared to the ones I bought for my 11. I would suggest waiting for something better to come along or go with Sh@rp.

If there is enough people interested in G10 Scales, I can make them at competitive price (I need at least 10 interested). Otherwise if you can supply the G10, then you just pay for the labor only. Please let me know.

That's exactly what I didn't like. The fact that they don't extend the whole length of the handle.

But, that's awesome, Sh@rp. I'm sure there are enough people interested in some G-10 scales. Perhaps we could turn this thread into something to see how many people are interested? There's atleast 2 people already in this thread interested.

Should I change the name of this thread or perhaps just create a new one to see who is interested? I'd really like to get this going. Not just for me, but for anyone who ever wanted a different option.

I'm down for the g-10. What color we doin? OD? I'm with anything natural, no hi vis or crazy colors for me

I am down with some G-10 handles for my Esky, pending some looks at the design (none of that blocky jive for me, I like 'em smooth and contoured), and in any color, so long as it is black.

I was leaning toward OD aswell. I thought about black, but almost all my knives are all black. I think I'd like a little change and go OD aswell.
