So I am getting ready to place my first Becker order and here is this little knife called the EsKabar starring at me like I need to add it to my cart. I think this knife is cool beans but I just am not sure what I would do with it? I almost always have a 3-4 inch folder on me as well as a SAK Farmer or a multi-tool. Do theese little knives such as the EsKabar fill a role that the above folder and farmer wouldn't? What am I missing here?

There's a vid I did on here, of Ethan destructing one, it bends 55 degrees before it breaks, and that was 6th time of being bent. I kept slipping out and tearing wood out of the test block. Damn tough knife, well worth the money.

if you are use to carrying folders and sak's I think you may find carrying a fixed blade as an edc a little trial-some, nonetheless very doable.. It's not quite as simple as clipping onto your pants or slipping into your pocket..

IMO a fixed blade for utility is a little cumbersome and draws a lot of attention from people when deploying, that's what I like most about them:D

You may enjoy it as a necker on the hip in the pocket, I've been known to carry 2 fixed and a folder, with a multi-tool just to try it out for a week.. with no problems..

but to answer your question directly, they fill no role as an urban edc that your farmer shouldn't fill.. but I say, check it out and see if its for you.

A fixed blade on your person for EDC is something that I will never be without.

I *could* field dress my deer with my SAK but bleah - what a pain to clean the knife afterward. My Becker Necker though - workes beautifully.

I was carrying my SAK at the time as well, by the way. ... and my BK-2.

So I ordered the BK2 and went ahead and got the BK14 and the belt clip as well. I figured why not? I will try it out and if I dont like it as an EDC I will just piggy back it to a bigger blade with a sheath set up. I have purchased my first Beckers folks and I hope to like them as much as you all do. Thanks for all the input from you guys.

be sure to post pics and your thoughts on them when they come in..

congrats..You will be blown away by the BK2 and I know you'll love the Escabar as 2 of my favs collaborate.. I have to many small fixed blades at the moment, but someday I may get me a Becker:D

Wow you made that decision within 42 minutes of posting this thread. You should consider politics as a career choice.

Nice job on the Beckers!

I've had mine on me since I got it. First to go on in the morning, last to come off at night. Stays on the nightstand, next to Mr. Series 70. I carry mine IWB strong side 4 o'clock, Mr. Series 70, rides 3 o'clock. Damn good combo.

You're gonna love it, I will be posting here in a day or two some pice, I finally stripped it squared the back, now, she's a real rider.

you'll break your SAK long before you break a BK14 :)

I carry a SAK almost everywhere I go, but I also have a small fixed blade for rougher cutting. Never had a small fixed blade fail in the type of heavy whittling and cutting that has ruined some of my folders.

i love both my bk-11 and bk-14 for the price you cant go wrong im hopeing to get some scales for the two soon
i stoped beating my folders and went to these

mmm, i'm pondering getting an EsKaBar, and finding a place (even on the internet) that can polish it up to smooth as mirror (without ruining the heat treat), and then COAT it in say, hard chrome :) mmm. fun? certainly blueing would be nice too.

Hey Jax...

Thanks for buying Becker......You are going to find the 14 to be very useful when afield.....I carry a SAK rucksack every single day but, I try not to use it to baton anything or do even light prying with the blade.....Your new Fourteen will out skin, out baton, out pry, and I suspect when it comes time to cut a steak, slice salami, or whittle a fork to spear a sardine out of the can you will go for the little fixed blade first...

I LOVE SAKs........ I have carried them since I was fifteen years old(oh crap I just realized that was HALF A FRIGGING CENTURY AGO !!!!!) and I Love the fact that when I lose one I can replace it for peanuts (and I ALWAYS lose folders).......When I was doing electronic stuff in my ill spent youth I consumed (ruined) an SAK in about a year....Always money well spent..........

The Fourteen weighs about 2 1/2 ounces and is about as versatile a small knife as I own and I have had a really serious knife Jones for a VERY long time.....Enjoy....

Please share your experiences when you get a chance........

Again, thank you !!!....

ALL BEST...
