I have my 2nd Becker kin the Eskabar. I am having a terrible time with sharpening this knife. I am sharpening challenged and resort to the Worsksharp on the 20 degree angle(convex) and have no issue with any other knives. I have run the Eskabar through 4 different session starting at the 25 degree with the 220 grit (red) belt then tried the 20 degree at 220 then the 6000 purple. I cannot get anything close to an edge. When I am finished it will cut paper for 1" then starts to tear. Again all of my other knives including my BK9 will get shaving sharp with this system. So I am coming to the experts.

1. What edge grind does the Eskabar come from the factory with?
2. If the edge grind is not convex - how long should I have to work on it with the Worksharp before I see some type of a sharp edge?
3. Is there anything special about this model that requires a different sharpening system.
4. Could this be a heat treat issue? I don't know enough to know.

I picked this up new a few weeks ago from Amazon so have no idea where it came from.

All opinions and advice are appreciated.

First question would be if you're sure you're sharpening to the edge? Have you tried the sharpie trick to guarantee you're sharpening to the burr? That system should be fine to get a good edge. What does the edge look like after you're done. If you can see a bit of a sheen when you look down onto the edge, then it's not building an edge. You might check periodically to see if you're getting any weirdness.

Are you testing the sharpness right-away, or are you putting it in the sheath first and then testing it? The Eskabar sheaths have had a dulling problem that Ka-Bar is trying to fix.

Hope this helps.

Testing sharpness immediately and not using the sheath. I plan on making my own kydex for it at some point
