Sooooo.... I said I would take part in every Becker challenge when I got my number. Feb's challenge is to make a nicely carved and well decorated fork with only one Becker knife. I don't have a Remora so the Esky was the smallest Becker I had on hand. It is a decent carving knife but not great. It's wide blade and thick point are perfect for EDC and utility use (what it was designed for) but not the best for getting in there for fine detail cuts like carving out the tines on a small fork. I can't do much about the overall blade shape, although I did thin out the point a bit, but I could change the grind a bit to be more suited for the task at hand. I decided to thin the edge and back it up quite a bit. I changed the edge angle from Ka-bar's 40deg inclusive to only 24deg inclusive. I know this seems thin to a lot of guys but it's really not that big of a deal with 1095 that has a great heat treat, far less of a big deal than a true scandi. Now, the knife slices like crazy. The cutting effort has been reduces so much that it feels like a mora when cutting into green wood. I also rounded off the shoulders on the edge to reduce drag and polished up (just a little) the flats. Now, my esky is ready to take part in the carving challenge.

WITHING 24 HRS I WILL POST A VIDEO OF THE ESKABAR WHITTLING A SINGLE HAIR.
