I recently got a g10 large espada. It's been opening and closing fine most of the time but now it seems to be stuck in the open position. It just won't budge at all when pressing the lock. Any ideas? This sucks.

Maybe a silly question, but are you fully depressing the lock as far back from the blade as possible?

If I try to casually disengage the lock on my Voyager without consciously pressing the back end as deep as it goes, it won't unlock. (I consider this a feature, not a bug.)

While controlling the blade with one hand and holding the handle with the other, press the lock against a counter or table edge to disengage the lock, then check for dirt. Oil if needed and work the action. Sometimes they just need a little "break in" period.

I have read on here that another member was having same problem with a different knife and what they did was use a pencil to rub some of the graphite on the blade where the lock engages. And just keep working it in and if the pencil wears off then re apply. I did try this with my GB2 that had a bit of a sticky lock and it worked for me very well.

Good luck

Dadpool: I thought I had tried all over the lock but trying to focus the pressure on the very back end did indeed get it open. BUT with a thick glove and all my strength pretty much. I must be super weak heh. Thanks

Mike Sastre: Thanks for this tip, it made disengaging the lock much easier. I was almost hesitant to opening and closing the thing again after it got stuck, but this method just works without much effort. :-)

I sure hope this thing will get easier with time, it can't be right that it should be that hard by design.

Thanks guys!

Tri-Ad lock stickiness is an issue on some knives. I had a Frenzy with severe stickiness. I oiled and cycled it maybe a hundred times or more. It didn't get any better. I sent it in to warranty and it came back functioning normally.
I also have a Night Force that was sticking very badly. That one did get better just from cycling.
I don't know the exact cause of the friction. I wish they all came from the factory without this issue but alas, they don't.

AF: We'll see how mine turns out. Sending it to Cold Steel isn't an option for me. I can't afford the shipping costs and stupid extra handling fees and customs and taxes here in Sweden. I would have to try to figure out however Cold Steel would fix the issue and try to do it myself. Maybe it's as easy as filing/sanding down some parts?

I think polishing the contacts between the lockbar and the tang and stop pin would probably help but when I disassembled my Frenzy and Night Force it wasn't apparent exactly where the friction was occurring.
Just cycling and oiling seems like a safer, if less efficient way to remedy the issue.

I bend my thumb up and disengage the Triad lock with the hard joint of my thumb, whereas on other locks I might use the tip or squishy part of my thumb. That might help you as well. :)

They are sometimes very stiff to unlock. With my American Lawman, I just kept working the lock and oiling the snot out of the lock mechanism for a few days and after awhile it smoothed out and now it unlocks almost as easy as any back lock. I also tried leaving it open at 90 degrees overnight. Not sure if it helped at all but the stiffness went away around the time my fingers and thumb bones healed up.
