The price of that knife is quite low considering everything that comes with it ? How is the quality of that knife ?

Thanks..

Hey, Credit Guy-- I've not personally handled any Esparcia knives, but it looks a bit gimmicky. Depending on your intended use for the knife, you could probably find better knives for the money. Take a look at some of the offerings in the Camillus Becker line, as well as Swamp Rat knives. The survival kit items are easy enough to buy separate from the knife, and can easily be stored in a pouch or other container attached to the sheath or stored elsewhere in your gear.

Credit Guy,

If you are looking for a real survival knife, I would recommend that you start with a full sized multitool such as the Victorinox Swisstool or the Leatherman Supertool 200. You are more likely to be carrying such a multitool when you find your self in a "survival" situation, and they are likely to serve you better than a gimicky survival knife. For times when even a multitool is too much to carry, get your self a Swiss Army Knife (SAK) with a wood saw.

If you must have a larger survival knife, look into something like the Becker BK7 Combat utility (the sheath has a pouch that will hold a multitool with room to spare).

There is something to be said for lighter fixed blade knives (such as the Spyderco Moran drop point which is one of my favorites), since they cut better, are easier to control, can be worn as a neckknife in some cases and are light weight. Although such knives are not suited for chopping, you can team them up with a folding saw and still save weight if wood cutting is called for.

IMHO, it is better to use a machete, axe or a saw when needed, than to depend on a "do everything" knife.

Right now, I have a victorinox swiss champ, a Buck Bayonet M9 and some medium cost Bowie knives and folders for hard jobs. I like to keep good quality knives in mint condition. I like survival knives that comes with many gadgets so my question is : Why survival knives that comes with survival gadgets seem to be always low-medium quality knives ?

Credit Guy, first off, welcome to Bladeforums! Next, I give you all the credit in the world for asking a rare question :)

I think that anyone who really needs all those little survival gadgets might want the best, specifically, they might want a particular compass or firestarter or whatever, not what someone else decided should fit in the knife. Maybe a whole fanny-pack's worth of gadgets, even.

So it doesn't pay for the knife manufacturer to make himself out to be a survival-gadget manufacturer, too. This leaves the low-end marketers to try to sell a cheap knife by adding even cheaper toys to it.

We have threads in the Gadgets & Gear forum about survival kits and medical kits and minimal kits and heavy-duty, rough country kits. That's what serious wilderness work requires, is thought on the part of the hiker, not the marketer.
