Can someone post a good pic of an Esquire and Hiking Buddy side by side please?

I dont have one in hand, but the esquire is closer to the patch knife size than a HB.

Not exactly "side-by-side", but there is a line up pic in the FB Friday 9/05/14 thread with a couple of Esquires, patch knives and a hiking buddy. Pretty good reference group. By the looks of it the patch knife is a tad bigger. Hiking buddy and Esquire neck and neck by my eye. May need to look for yourself. May help....

According to the thread Elite KG posted, the Esquire is the same overall length as the old design 3 Finger Karda. I'd really like one!

I don't have an Esquire yet to add to the original request, but I can say that the Hiking Buddy and Patch are basically the same size. Hard to tell in the picture because of perspective, but these are lined up on the butt.

Another test I did since my calipers aren't big enough is stand them up on the table on their butts, get a level to show the difference between the tips and measure that with the calipers. About 1mm difference (HB was longer) which can probably be attributed to grind differences. Here's the original announcement of the Patch:

We are proud to introduce our newest knife, the Patch Knife. It is an historical design originally used to cut patches for black powder shooting. But of course this handy little knife was used for everything. It is a scaled down version of the Recluse, similarly sized as the Hiking Buddy, shown here with the Bubinga Recluse (#9 this week) for size comparison sake.

Here's the announcement of the Esquire with some comparison pics from Andy:

The Esquire is a small knife. It is smaller than a Hiking Buddy by a good bit. The blade is 2.75" long and the handle is 3.75" long with an overall length of 6.5". I got the inspiration from two sources. Firstly, thought the knife doesn't resemble one at all, Bob Loveless' New York Special was one inspiration. Its my favorite Loveless by far because of how quirky it is. At the show I realized my line needs a little more salt, and this design came from that. The sweeping curve at the tail end of the handle is something I've seen on folders in the past.

Unfortunately, this week, I made myself one, and the other was a dud due to pinout issues. Let not your heart be troubled though, we've got a lot of these profiled. I think they are dead sexy, and fun to make too. I plan to do daggergrinds on some of them, and maybe even some hollow grinding. I hope you like the knife!

This pic shows the sexy handle profile, but also it shows the pinout flaw. What a shame.

Thank you very much hasco, confirms for me that I made the right decision :)

What is the decision??? I see... hopefully it fits her well!

I think it will. I sat here looking at the pics in this thread having her hold my HB in her hand as I looked back and forth between her hand and the pics on the screen. We are moving to an area where my HB and this Esquire will get a lot less funny looks from passers by on the local trails as I step up the game in teaching her wilderness skills. Signal Mountain is not a good place to open carry larger blades or more tactical looking blades after a round of vandalism with some young kids chopping the hel out of some 200 year old Hemlocks in the local parks just for the fun of it. I think the classy lines and smaller size will put more people at ease about out kit and save me the time of having to explain and defend my position that will be better on teaching her skills. Plus, you know...I'm a devout FF fan, and my HB is still a bit big for her to comfortably manipulate in use. I want her to be able to focus on the lessons. We'll go into adapting tools to the task later on when she is older, or if worse comes to worse, she can figure that out on her own the way I did :)

Picked up my Scandi Esquire today. Lovely size for an inside the front pocket daily carry.

Thanks guys, it consistently looks like the perfect size for her looking at my HB in her hand. I think I might have missed this one due to my hesitation, but at least next time I am armed with information going into the Friday post :)

What's the over all length of the Esquire? The top picture makes it look to be 6.5" and the bottom looks 6.75".

Found it in the thread linked above. Andy says 6.5" over all. :D

I lost that one in a trade, but I remember lining that top picture right on the line 1". It is some what of an illusion because of the angle the photograph was taken. I noticed that when I took the picture. I think it was 6.5". My scandi esquire is just under 6.5".

The Esquire looks like a great girls-first-knife kind of knife. Or a boys-first-knife, if that's what lives under your roof. :D

And a great front pocket blade. This explains Bonafide's new sheath.
