I've been looking at these for basic camp duty. Seems there are two sizes of these?
One 12 inch and one 14 inch. Anybody have experience with either of these?
I'm thinking the 12 incher might work better in a back pack, but the 14 incher might as well?
I searched and found a thread from around eight years ago, so decided a new thread was in order.
Back to the topic; Any preference between these two?

You might find something here.

There's a forum member who has both , but everything he posts always looks brand new so I don't think would be able to tell you which one actually works better.

I”m not that guy, but I also have both. An old comparison pic, and the 14 was still new at the time, obviously. They may look close in size, but in hand there is a noticeable difference, and in performance too. The 14 is definitely more packable, but so far it has not been able to convince me it’s the one, yet.

The only real knock I have against either is that they are not the best if you want to choke up on the handle for close up work. It’s thin and not the easiest to hold. Gloves do help.

Thanks! I was looking in the Estwing topic and saw a blue rubber handled Estwing that I really liked, so I looked it up and found it on sale on Amazon.
It's the 14 inch axe.
It'll be here tomorrow.

I have a couple of Estwing’s including a campers axe (18” overall length), and I never go off-road without it. I have cut limbs, roots, fallen trees, and broken ice with it frequently. They are fantastic tools that don’t break even with abuse. The handles are awesome in wet/snow. Truly great tools.
