So I received Oregon FAL'ers BK1 ''The Brute'' yesterday..it's finally my turn in the Passaround. Thanks for the chance to try this out FAL'er...I appreciate it.
The BK1 along with the FFG''17'' from K9's lab.
This particular Brute was manufactured by Effingham, from what I understand it has been worked over by the very capable Bill Siegle.

It is in fine shape, obviously has been used but not abused, a very nice specimen. I really like the design, it's a tad too re-curved for my taste...but I still like it. It is a handful, very close to a BK2 in thickness...but has a nice balance to it.
DAY 1
I didn't get much chance to use it yesterday, but I packed it around to get a feel for it..and managed to nick my finger LOL
A tree fell in Thursday's storm...so the Brute and I went to investigate.
not something ya see very day, a Becker 20' off the ground in a sapling LOL
I lopped a few limbs with it, got a feel for the blade.
DAY 2
Today I went out to the deer lease to check our stands...and tested the chopping power of the Brute a lil bit. FAL'er asked that it not be torture-tested or batoned (a wise idea that I agree with) so I mostly just chopped.
Two brutal beauties.
The Victim of the Brute's Wrath
The Brute reigned supreme...chopped very well, lots of mass impacting..I liked it. The only thing I dont care for is the old-school scales. They are blocky, rubbed a couple hot-spots, and feels slippery then the modern grivory. I plan to try it out with grivory and micarta later.
The kit for the day.
I tried a little ''bushcrafting'' with it, juvenile stuff.
took a sapling down
made a peg
drove the peg...could be part of a shelter or a trap/snare.
One element of the Brute I find unique is the ''hammer'' portion on the spine..between the swedges. I presume it's a flat spot to aid in batoning or to hammer stakes, etc.
The young'uns I brought along to do the mule work
A few glamor shots.
