Anybody have a date for these....CC is getting itchy.

The latest word from Spyderco is sometime later this year. Jerry Hossom said on KnifeForums around Christmas.

Good, that's what I'll be racking up the overtime.:D

Anybody else a bit disappointed with the steel choice? Seems like such a nice, hard use chopper design to not use some good carbon steel with some toughness to it.

Speaking (on KnifeForums) about his Spyderco collaboration, Jerry Hossom said:

"These will come in N690Co, which is a Boehler high performance stainless. I don't know if Spyderco will offer them in any other steel.

Personally, I recommend stainless for an outdoors knife. Nothing will take the edge off a knife faster than in-sheath corrosion. The edge will go away long before you will see significant rust elsewhere on a blade."

AND

"I tested a 6" prototype of the above and found it to be a pretty tough steel. I beat the heck out of some hardwood and it handled it fine. The "Co" in the name stands for Cobalt. That's added to retard stress cracks in steel, so it was designed to be a tough stainless."

If Jerry's satisfied, I see no reason to be dissatisfied.

N690Co is supposed to be some good stuff. I have a BM Rant drop point out of that steel, and it holds an edge wonderfully, and has held up to some pretty good prying/woodsplitting. I also have a Hossom Retribution 1 of that same steel that is doing very well so far.

I won't complain until I get to play with it for a little while. Cobalt laden VG-10 is my favorite steel by far, so N690 should be right up my alley. Personally, I find that Cobalt makes blades pretty much indestructible(yes I'm being a little dramatic:rolleyes: but I'm not far off)

I guess I'll take your guy's word for it. It's just pretty easy for me to imagine high carbon stainless snapping on me if I stress it too much.
