I nabbed this like a year ago on the bay, thinking it was the big one. Then I found out that it was the short, now discontinued version. Really like the knife, I feel it's a pretty good all-rounder. Blade is not small but not too big, handle is grippy, good steel, love the grinds, thick but not overly heavy. It's also an excellent thrower. That said, it could handle some abuse and come out smelling like roses.
As the collection keeps growing it saw less and less action. After attaching a pouch to the stock sheath a couple of months ago, I took a long look at it and marked it as the next etch victim. Since it was made in Taiwan, I chose to keep it with an asian flavor (I scored another one of these recently as a project with a removed handle and it is almost done, this one now with an american flair). Having proved itself, it got a Kabuto (samurai helmet) with the Bushido (way of the warrior) code in kanji symbols on the right side
Here is the blade covered in the acid-resistant ink and the first design scratched out
After a 2.5 hour acid dip and light sanding
The left side got a katana overlaid with the Kendo (way of the sword) in kanji symbols
And then, back to blueing. First time using the Birchwood-Casey blueing paste and I like it better than the liquid
stay tuned...more etches to come
