Do you guy's etch your fixed blades before or after assembly? Here's how I did it. I finished the knife guard and all except for sharpening. Then I coated the guard with fingernail polish to protect it, then using some padded quick grip clamps on the handle to keep it from going too deep in the etchant. I immersed it,this worked for me. How do you guy's do it.

Depending on the guard I am using,I will usually secure the guard then etch but hardly never after the handle is attached. It can be done, but it is to risky to me.

Yeah Ive done it that way and it worked fine but usually I etch before assembly. The biggest trouble is if the guard is soldered on after the etch, It is easy to get solder in the damascus and hard to get it out. Thats a disadvantage of a soldered guard. I Press fit most guards and JB weld them to keep moisture out.
