UPDATE: Final pics added. Post #8

After getting my BK7 stripped and set up just the way I want it, I decided it's finally time to strip the BK9. I wanted to do something a little extra on this one though...

So I'm doing an etching on both sides of the blade. On the right side, we have BECKERHEAD #249. On the right side I will add UNCLE MALICE.

I couldn't figure out a good way to do the stenciling/etching... so my method may be pretty weird to you guys. I printed out a label with the text... and then freehand drew the characters onto the blade with pencil. Once I had the outlines all done, I used the sharp tip on my soldering iron to cut out the finish. The heat melted it away and I just sorta scraped it away. There are probably better ways... but I actually like the way this is turning out. Once I got through the letter blocks with the soldering iron... now i'm just doing sessions with the PCB etchant solution to get it down into the blade. I started yesterday, and what you see in the picture is the result of about 2 hours of etching yesterday and about 3 hours today. I may go a little deeper... still trying to decide.

I'll follow up with the next side as I progress...

Nice work so far man , I might have to give etching a go one day when I can find the damn solution (to be fair, I havent really tried looking for it). You've got one very cool looking 9 right there.

Damn! That looks great! I don't know squat about etching so no help from me. But I have to say I'm impressed that you've spent this much time and effort on it. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks guys. I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out for sure.

Cam, I found the PCB Etchant at Radio Shack tucked away in the little corner where they still actually have electronic components. It was up on a top shelf at mine... Almost looks like a shampoo bottle.

Finishing up etching the other side now... I think I'll be able to get it deep enough tonight that I can blue the letters and strip it tomorrow. Should have a finished product by the end of the weekend!

Well, it's pretty much done now. Got it stripped, patina'd, and stropped. I may hit the spine all the way around with the sandpaper to smooth out the machining marks... but other than that, I'm pretty happy with it.

Got the stainless bolts in. The handles look a little darker than normal because they soaked up a bit of grease. I use a little bit of the red axle grease in the tang under the handles as an extra rust inhibitor. Works great so far. It creates a nice seal. The camo pattern that you all have seen is holding up pretty well and will come back after the scales dry out a little.

Inside pics show up the etching better. The outside pics kind of washed it out a bit.
