etching problems

hey guys, I'm having an issue with my etching. I'm using fc and I'm getting some discoloration. It's bringing out the pattern but coloring the metal a red/ rusty color. Is there something I'm doing wrong or forgetting to do? And how do I get it to stop? Could use a little help
 
It sounds like you need to neutralize the acid after you are done with the etch.Use Windex or a solution of ammonia.

use a diluted mixture of FC and distilled water. usually about a 4-1 ratio.

soak for 15mins and scrub with 0000 steel wool. Rinse and repeat until desired results.

I don't see how you would be getting a red color etch (Unless its iron oxide developing). Even then in all the years Ive been acid etching, I've never had a steel that etched a redish color.
