Etching stainless - Mess Up

Sooooo.....

I’m an idiot. I’m looking for some advice, I ooofed up when marking my blade. It’s stainless and didn’t use the mark function on my personalizer because I was planning to use brass black - welp, that only works for carbon steel (I believe?). I used it and it pretty much did nothing.

any advice on fixing this? The etch is nice and deep, would taping it off and marking a large section really require a ton of sanding to take the mark off the surrounding areas?

Will provide pictures tonight, just looking for some advice.

Fill it with black ( any color) paint or nail polish and wipe it good. That work for you?

was hoping there was a better way - but I might just leave it plain. I tried relaying the stencil down but shot a bit high so like 2/3 is etched ish. Pretty bummed at myself for this. Finally got my first deep good etch, and booofed it.

I think you could carefully line up your stencil tape it on and re-etch. I know that could be scary but it can be done I just had to get an etch deeper and had to do the same thing. Or try some cold blue, test first on something you haven't finished.

a bright-only etch is also nifty. You could also re-temper the blade (if no handle) to give the whole thing a golden color, and then polish only the flat surface, leaving some color in the mark.

If you've got a double mark, then I dunno...

It isn’t double etched, it is marked a mm above when I tried to realign it. I’ll try to realign it better and mark it again :)

Marking again is not big problem , you can sand it again...... until you hit the center :D
Maybe marking without stencil would do job RIGHT :p
