Hey guys,
Just wondering if etching Talonite makes sense ? As it's not yer every day steel, was wondering if it would give me a hardtime before I tried it. Just completed a TAlonite knife for a customer now I need to mark it. Anyone have experience with this stuff enough to teach me ? Thanks and take care.....RDT
See ya at Blade show !

Etching Talonite is pretty easy, but you do need to mark it heavier than you would conventional steel... Also the mark may not be as dark as you would normally like... Hope this helps...

Have not actually etched talonite, but stellite did not give me any problems and etched very nicely. I can't remember what etching solution I used but would think Marking Methods could tell you. Their number is 1-626-282-8823.

Trace, Tom, thanks a bunch. I will give it a go and post some pics. Man, I like the fact you don't have to HT Talonite but working with Carbide bits SUCKS ! See ya.....RDT

the dc works pretty well, but the ac is very sporadic and the black tends to float out of the etch.........in fact you can rub it all off with your finger if you try..... :(

That's exactly what happened. The color wiped right off but the etch was still there. Almost like a fancy stamp or transparency of some sort. Anyway, it looks fine in the end. Here's two pics of the knife. It's based on an Emerson La Griffe that a customer wanted but I won't make an exact duplicate so I changed it up just a tad. 5/32" thick, slightly longer blade, chisel ground with a shetah that can be either for neck or IWB carry. Entirely jeweled and sculpted handle. My camera sucks but you can just barely make out the logos on both sides. Thanks guys, take care.....RDT
PS, this is a one of a kind and never will be made again.
