etching

Hi,
I am new
at knife making .
I have forge a cabel blade and have etched part of it with muritic acid and have got a tiger striped pattern would it be better to use fericcloride to bring out the pattern.

the best etch for cable that i have used is 1 part nitric acid and 3 parts muritic acid this will only take a few minutes to do you will just have to experiment on the time like take a look every 5 minutes or so till you get what you like be very careful with this mixture it puts off a awful breathtaking odor

Ferric will work here also. Mix it stronger at about 75-25. It can be had from Radio shack. They call it PCB etchant
