None other than our very own Ethan (Uncle E.) Becker was putting in the time and pressing the flesh at SHOT 2018 in Las Vegas this past week. His table in the Ka-Bar compound had the array of 1095 CroVan us Beckerheads adore along with the wit, wisdom and jocularity we prefer to go along with it.

Many who stopped by to visit knew Ethan and yearned for some face time while others were familiar (at varied levels) with the product line and wanted to touch and feel the steel. Ethan, ever the indulgent one, allowed me to long overstay my welcome listening to him pontificate about knives in general and Becker Knives in particular - even whilst I added my two-cents (or more) now and again ... and again ... and again. Good times!

John Stitt, (President/CEO Ka-Bar), was there as well; I viewed (and used) him as fresh meat for my repertoire of jokes and seemingly witty though thoroughly feigned knowledge of knives, the outdoors, women and the like. I have always said that when you purchase a personal item, such as a knife, the ownership experience is not only enhanced, but in many cases dependent upon a relationship with the company.
He is a great guy and I can see why Ka-Bar, Ethan and those of us on this forum are such a good fit.

Good times indeed.
Sorry, no pics - you'll just have to take my word for it on this one.
There was nothing new in the Becker display at SHOT - except me ... but I'm hardly new.

In fact, as it relates to knives, fixed blades in particular, there wasn't really much new and exciting at SHOT overall. When you really get down to it, there's only so many variations of materials and designs that can be arranged in a tool whose purpose it is to separate molecules that want to stay together.

Becker knives are good affordable tools. Uncle E said he had this in mind for his line I believe. Last year was my year of having money thanks to other obligations now... I was glad I could get a few dang good Beckers I could and several of the models I liked. Wish I was smart enough to get another BK 4 but 'eh, didn't know now much I'd like it at the time. The large sized multi-tools I got 4 and 9 will see use by me or other people who need to borrow them. Only thing I might try and budget for is another BK 2, my little brother has been eyeing mine with the micarta handle. That's the one Uncle E said he'd be famous for and well I think it is a great knife to be proud to be famous for! Its a great heavy use short knife most people don't think one has a use for! For disclosure I do use other knives, but I got Beckers to fill a need I still needed to be filled and where they can cross over on duties. (*does not say thanks to the Thumpin and Whumpin Hilt so just typed it* ;) )

At the affordable price point point I want to make before I got rambled tracked was I can get SEVERAL of them as opposed to one or two of the same types of steel others charge.

Hope Uncle E. has many more SHOT SHOWs to see! I'd like to meet him but with the U-tube and such its good just to see him talking about the knives and philosophies and how they came out and about.

So who ever went to SHOT in the past or future and thank him for his ideas and his friends so they could be brought to life.
