Ethan Becker Bk-9 custom?

Welcome aboard. Ethan is a designer and developer, but there are a number of fine custom makers hanging around here that might be interested in taking on your project. Stick around.

Thank you for the welcome and the helpful information! I'd love to find somebody to build my design.

Out of interest, why do you fancy a longer handle? I would have thought the added handle length would make it more prone to sliding in the hand and less of a nice grip the current handle offers, so any gain would be negligible in this sense

Well the Bk-9 is already a superior chopper and the added leverage of a longer handle can only improve that. I'm looking for more of a Bk-9 hand and a half, something that can be used single handed either in the high grip or towards the end of the handle as well as having the capability to be used two handed if necessary. In short I'm seeking more options. In regards to slipping, well handle materials don't necessarily have to be the standard Grivory. I'd also want added blade thickness and a nonskeltonized handle for improved rigidity and strength.

If it were me, id change it to be the same overall length, but with a standard sized handle and extra blade length. I wouldn't want to even try to chop with two hands on a knife that small. I'd also keep the handle skeletonized to reduce weight, and make the knife weighted forward.

But that's just me.

Do what makes you happy though :).

Haha, I put that in there very slowly with a dremel. It's amazing how such a small modification can improve detailed tasks so much.

Hey Lokinn....

Your concept is sound, I think..... A handle as long as you have pictured is similar to a Japanese foresters knife.... I am lucky enough to have an example by Murray Carter and it is an absolute beast........ The Carter iteration has an axe like handle and is very comfy and real choppy....... Try TM Hunt...... I will be happy to send you a pic....... This is actually something I have been considering doing as a concept blade..... Tell Todd to tell Murph to take a gander at the Carter when he is down to visit.......

I would greatly appreciate that picture and I will contact them right away. Thank you very much Mr. Becker. You've been exceptionally helpful and I'll be sure to pass along the message.

The 9 is the only Becker I have that I've wished for a choil - maybe that's a mod I'll try on it. I pick it up and my index finger wants to choke up into a choil.

Sounds intriguing... I remember the knife. I'm looking forward to playing with this idea.

I'm not sure I'd want the extra length on the handle, but I've never claimed to know much about knives, so......rock on!!!

I had the same idea, to do a rendering with a longer handle, but discovered that SilentJohn had already done it. Can't find it, but its around here somewhere.

You can adjust the balance in very interesting ways by sliding your hand ...... Tiny increments make a difference ....... Very cool...... From the lightest of cuts to heavy chopping with no effort and great speed.....
