Hey Ethan,

Hopefully this is OK to do a post like this if not pull it down.

I had a few things I would like to talk to you about but didn't see a PM option on your profile. So if it you wouldn't mind sending me a PM I would appreciate it.

Thanks,
Greebe

Greebe, you need to have at least a basic membership to send or receive PMs.

Maybe he can email me then? I would rather bring an issue to him with one of my Becker knives then air it on the open forum. That seems more respectful as I love my knives, but just need to resolve and issue.

Thanks,
Greebe

Don't you think you should go to the manufacturer instead if you have an issue with one of your knives ?

Greebe, Ka-Bar contact info is at the bottom of this page: http://www.kabar.com/
You can email or call them if one of your Beckers has an issue.

No worries guys. I am not looking to get anything out of him, if you look at my posts, you will see I like his knives.

I just wanted to bring up to Ethan that the grind was off and there was a gouge in the blade from grinding, but I think it can be used without any problems. I felt that might be better to do off forum, but I guess I will say what the problem was, so you do not thinking I was trying to attack Ethan or something. I was just looking to inform him and see his thoughts are and if it might make the blade weak to sideways torque. Perhaps I should have just made a post about it, but I did not feel that would be respectful of him or his knives. I like my BK's and don't want to bring any bad press which is why I was looking to talk to him directly, but no worries.

I just thought that he would like to know that regardless of warranty, since it has his name on it. I know I would. ;)

Thanks,
Greebe

Do a search for bk lemons and you will see his views on such and the general bk public response. There were some outstanding bk16 mods that came out of such a discussion. Quality control issues are a reality of every type of product, and KA-bar is a great company to deal with. First place I would go is the place you purchased it and just look at an exchange....then go to the manufacturer. Post a picture though, as you might find others with similar experience.

All good advice.

I appreciate the discretion, Greebe, but you don't have to hide anything. Problems come up, and Ka-Bar is good about dealing with them.
Sometimes, there are machine/grind marks under the coating. And the final grinds/edges are hand-done, so not every one is going to be spot on symmetrical.
If you don't want to exchange the knife or contact Ka-Bar just yet, post up some pics, and let us see what you're talking about. Folks here will give you some honest, polite feedback and suggestions.

hey! whoa whoa whoa... crazy talk...

you call that number, you're just going to get some German guy, might be drunk, might not be...

but you're still going to owe the mod $20 in shots :D

trust me, that's something you don't want :D

Again, seeing Ethan Becker himself offer up personal contact info to help out a customer is why I'm never straying from the Becker brand.

Hey Ethan,

I really enjoyed our conversation today. Just wanted to let you know that I appreciate you taking the time to talk.

Here is that link I was telling you about with the sheepsfoot knife I made using your handle scales.
