Ok so as my consumption of Beckers is nearing the end (just for a little while) or until more released, came across a Sterile Brute floating on the Bay Only issue sold as Group of three as someone unloading collection of knives, so long story short Sterile Brute arrived today with the other 2 Knives a Camillus mid 70's Mark2 and a Government issued knife. A little research and some questions and 3rd knife turns out to be a British Survival Knife as noted by a Forum member who stated Knife was the inspiration for Ethan Becker to Make the BK2, A possibility as at first impression knife resembles the 2 with 1/4" stock and similar blade shape and heavy as all hell. So Ethan was this Knife which appears to be a BK2 on Steroids your inspiration for the BK2 TRUE OR FALSE ?

Here are the Three together found out the Sterile Brute's a Little Rare as Only 100 Done as per Mike Stewart

I do believe it is:

Yo.....

The old British issue MOD4 blade was a gotta have for me and then when I acquired one I was extremely disappointed..... The blade appears to be zone heat treated or not at all ..... When I attempted to reprofile the edge it was like grinding modeling clay- hopeless, absolutely hopeless........ The idea of the knife, a big, hefty, brutish, tackle Armageddon with a smile sort of blade appealed to me----soooo, I morphed it into the BK2 Campanion ........ BTW, I have found most of the "issue" British blades to be deplorably made..... Easy to sharpen with a dull Pakistani file though......

Good looking knife; not as good looking as the BK2, but nice nonetheless.

Brings to mind the old street racers line about when someone shows up with a car that no one has seen run before.
Nice looking car ... but can it run?

I have the original, Wilkinson, version of the M.O.D. Type D Survival Knife. Full convex grind. Bright finish. Nicely-shaped hardwood handle. Feels pretty hard when sharpened it and took a nice edge.

This thread has a picture of the Wilkinson - and later versions: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/627341-British-MOD-4-Survival-Knife

The next maker, Rodgers, did a pretty good job.

Then about late 1970's the notion that the knife should be cheaper took hold, and it was down hill from there. Handles, blade, sheath - all turned to crude junk.

I've always admired that knife. It broke my heart a bit when Ethan told me of it's shortcomings.

Had one until recently. Bought new from Sheffield. Total lump of shite as a knife, but fit for prying open crates which is all a squaddie ever uses them for. Not even routinely issued since the mid 90s so I've been told.

If I was heading to the sandpit and needed a knife like that, I'd rather take my bk2 any day.

I wouldn't want one of the new MoD knives but I probably wouldn't mind one of the old ones (back when the makers actually cared about the knives, you know, cutting) if I found one at a good price. I still wouldn't pay too much for it though.
It's kinda pretty... in an ugly, bare bones, not-meant-to-look-good way :D

I do agree that the BK2 is considerably better designed and executed.

Yeah the old full convex ones made by Wilkinson sword were good blades. Nowill one I had came with uneven grinds and an edge ground flat rather than V shaped. Wonky spot welded guard and oversized handle scales plus a truly awful sheath which now serves a semi useful puropse holding bolts for my xbow.

This is the Wilkinson Sword Type D RAF knife. It is one fantastic blade. Best convex grind I've ever received and has a great heat treat.

After I modified mine:
