Ethnic inspired pocket/folding knives?

I like modern knives that take inspiration from traditional designs. Some example: Spyderco Kris, Spyderco Barong, Spyderco Shabaria, Cold Steel Scimitar folder, Emerson Persian, to name a few. The only knife that I have currently which fall into this category is the CRKT Persian. I'm hoping to get the Spyderco Hundred Pacer next (inspired by Taiwanese aboriginal blades). Any suggestion as to what other knives that I should look into?

Who makes that Navaja?

Spyderco.

Schempp was the designer, as he was for several other knives in the Ethnic Series, including the Bowie, Euro Edge and Persian; all of which I own but I don't own a Navaja because it never appealed to me.

I currently own a total of 13 knives from the Ethnic Series but am still looking for a Schempp designed Kris to buy for a "reasonable" price.

Not exactly modern, but it’s hard to get more traditional than an Opinel. Very inexpensive, but some of the best slicers I’ve ever handled. Made for well over a century in France.

Look at Case knives; GEC and Laguiole knives. All steeped in American tradition and in the case of Laguiole knives, French tradition.

Be careful when buying a Laguiole.

The term "Laguiole" is in the public domain and is not trademarked so anyone can label their knives "Laguiole" w/o violating any laws whatsoever. So, technically speaking there is no such thing as a "fake" Laguiole BUT it is generally accepted that "real" Laguioles are ONLY made by certain companies doing business in the village of Laguiole, France and most of those knives cost around $100-300 each.

Anything sold for less is NOT a genuine Laguioule. See the following for an explanation of the issues and a catalog of authentic Laguioles for sale: Lagioule Guidelines.

Hmm. JParanee's Navaja does not look like Spyderco's Navaja.

Didn't know there as another. Only one I was aware of was Spyderco's but, like Persian, unless it's trademarked, anyone can use any name they like.

Ah. That explains it. I thought perhaps it was so heavily modified / customized it had been radically transformed. In any event, I like the one JParanee posted, whatever it is...

Cold steel Kudu, very capable and inexpensive knife. They usually go for $5-10. I have one to use and abuse at work and we'll it's been abused enough by me and various other people.

Spyderco Nilakka, inspired by Finnish puukko knives. I didn't like it though, thin, scandi grind blade with a very bulky and heavy handle. Sold it pretty quick, but worth a look, if you can find one.

The upcoming Drop/Terzuola/WE Persian looks interesting.

I would add the CS Finn Bear and Canadian belt knife.

Then, how about the Otter Messer variations (brass, copper, stainless) on the original black Kauffman K55K Mercator.

JParanee JParanee Navaja is also a custom and quite a bit more expensive than any of the Spyderco "Ethnic" series, even at secondary market prices. And while I think there are traditional aspects to it, it is a modern take on the Navaja. I have one as well, so I am not just speaking for Joe's knife.

OP asked .....I like modern knives that take inspiration from traditional designs.

I believe that knife qualifies :)
