Last week on fixed blade for sale by individual I commented on how nice I thought a knife was. I was sent a note saying while it was complimentary it wasn’t allowed in that thread and subsequently “moved”. I was contemplating and subsequently purchased said knife. My question is what made my statement inappropriate when I’ve seen a numbered of others commenting favorably on the product and allowed to remain in the thread? Seems rather capricious and arbitrary.

I think it's up to the seller..... some like feedback, and some Don't Care about what You think?
the seller might of reported you to the mods?
maybe not......

*like you said, some makers/sellers seem to encourage Positive feedback..... .

From the Exchange Rules/ Buyer/ #5
Do not post in a person's thread unless you have an implicit interest in buying the item. Posts like, "Nice knife!", "Why is the price so high/low?", "I wish I had funds" are not allowed. This means absolutely no commentary or feedback in someone's sales thread...
The only exception to this is in the Knife Makers Market areas (if the maker/craftsman requests and welcomes feedback).

Yes, a lot of people ignore - or are ignorant of - that rule; but that doesn't make the posts acceptable.
Why some are left while others are not - at it's simplest, the moderators don't look at every post, or even every thread. Maybe it got reported, maybe they just happened to look.
