Eugene Show, great!

The Eugene show was a great time, with the Montana makers taking home several awards. I cant remember them all but know Ed Caffery won the "Best Handforged" with a sweet hunter. Seems Rick Dunkerly and Barry Gallager won something too. I didnt submit any knives for judging as I had sold out in 6 hours.

There was lots of knives and makers too see, 420 tables of stuff, with nice wide isles. William Harsey had the nicest fighter I had ever seen, and of course Ken Onion had some razoo stuff as usual. I got to see the first production Talon's, Camillus is doing a great job on them!

There was lots more, but dont have the time so I hope some other folks that were at the show will step in here and add to this.

I had the time of my life at the show this weekend! It was well worth the 3,000 mile flight (for only two days).

I was kind of surprised that I didn't run into more BladeForums people though. We were all supposed to meet at Bernard Levine's table at 12:00 on Saturday, but there ended up only being about 3 of us....... was it something I said??? LOL

Some of the highlights of my time were:
~ Meeting and talking with Kelly Worden

~ Doing a well recieved Butterfly Knife demonstration (with chuck Gollnick). No drops, No cuts....... just as it should be
smile.gif

~ Meeting Les De Asis, who let me Handle 2 beautiful Benchmade prototype folders. You guys are gonna LOVE these when they come out. Sorry I can't tell ya' about 'em.

~ Handleing Benchmade's new Model 42(sweet!)

~ Eyeing up some of the most beautiful pieces of custom work I've ever seen.

~ I also had the pleasure of meeting and talking with some great people.

I can't wait until next year!

Because......
getting 'em open
is half the fun!

I posted more here http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum54/HTML/000519.html

Rob - I was on the search for you as your knives are on the top of my list of wants, but somehow didn't find you. I did get to check out the Camillus Talon however - very nice. As I am broke right now maybe this was all for the best anyway

.

Clay - sorry I missed the high noon deadline at Bernards, I got yacking at another table and lost track of time. I did make it to the demonstration and really enjoyed it. I was going to come over and introduce myself after the show but got engrossed in Mr. Wordens demo and whimped out afterwards - after getting a look at you I doubt it was anything you said that may have scared us off...

Just kidding, but I wouldn't want to tick you off.

Glad to hear I am not alone in my opinion of Ed Caffrey's knives and the new Benchmades.

David

Sorry I missed you guys, easy enough to do at a show like that! I had sold out by 3 or 4 on Friday, and the show manager said he had a list of guys really wanting tables so I let another person have my table and hung mostly around the Camillus table. Well, hope to see more of you guys in Atlanta!

Hey guys! Sorry I missed the 12:00 meet. I got to the show about 12:30 or so, after a hellish drive from Portland. I did get to meet a few Forumites, from a few forums actually. I couldn't find Rob Simonich either. I was curious to handle a Talonite Cetan. Had a wonderful time, even though I was operating on only 4 hours of sleep. Fell in love with many a blade, but ended up missing out on all the ones I really wanted (and could afford!). The balisong demo was very interesting as well. I was rather put off by the evident lack of interest in trades by most tableholders. I had a few blades to trade and nobody seemed interested in even considering a trade. Only 2 asked to see the knives I had with me...but I digress.

Wow! What a weekend! That was Great!

Hangin' with Clay was great. He's a very skilled balisong artist, the best there is, no doubt, and a darn nice guy even if he does scare waitresses.

Hangin' with Kelly Worden was great.

Hangin' with Bernard Levine was great.

Hangin' with the Benchmade crew was great.

Hangin' with Bob Mikus was great.

Meeting many custom makers was great.

Seeing all those wonderful art knives was great. As much as I like balisongs, I love art folders with MOP and engraving and file work and all that and there were some great examples there.

The rope cutting contest was very interesting. I had really ever believed that anyone could cut through eight big, heavy ropes in one slash. I always figured it was either rigged or that I really wasn't understanding what it was. But, it's true. They hang eight lengths of heavy, serious rope vertically and these guys slice through it.

The grinding demonstrations were interesting, but we were at the Benchmade factory on Friday and saw how it's really done. You guys are slow. You gotta work on that.

Meeting a few other forumites was also great, but I wish that more of you would have shown up. It's fun to put a handshake to the screen name.

Yes indeed, a really great show! Hey Rob, it was great talking to you and the gentleman from Camillius, (I'm sorry, his name slipped from my memory). Much better than past shows because of the wider isles.
I didn't have a lot of money to burn this time but I picked up some nice stuff including a new model auto from Pro Tech, (Billy Mac are you listening?), with rainbow anonized titanium scales and a William Clark made beatifully polished ATS-34 blade. This sucker is the smoothest and quickest opener of all my autos and believe me I pretty much have them all. Blade Tech is a company that is going places! Their stuff is as quality now as anybody's, (if not more so), and this from a guy who wasn't very impressed with their stuff at first.
Sorry I too missed most of the BF members. I was just too dazed being in knife Nirvana.
Hey guys, I don't see how anyone could miss Rob. Next time just look for the biggest black cowboy hat you've ever seen moving around and that'll be Rob underneath it. A truly nice guy!

Gene/Rob:

Glad to hear you guys met up. Any discussion on the Cetan Talonite edge <big grin>?

I'm at the crossroads about making the Atlanta show... not looking good. Just got a quote to put siding on my house... 5 figures ouch! But gotta do it and that may very well undermine any sortie to Hot 'Lanta. Oh well.

Now that you mention it, the isles were wider that before and wider than most shows. It was really comfortable. I didn't have that crowded feeling. That's a nice touch.

Hi Bob!
Rob and I talked some Talonite of course and discussed that thread I started awhile back. We also discussed the forums and the forumites. He's a real interesting, knowledgeable guy and easy to talk to.
I'd sure like to go to the Atlanta show also but it doesn't look good. Hell, I'm already looking forward to the next Eugene show!
Good to hear from you bro.
