... a big disappointment!!

I was in the forest yesterday to make firewood with a friend of mine. He told me that he heard that there will be a forge-show with sword- and axemaking today not far from where I life. I was pretty excited so I asked my wife if we could get there today and enjoying the show. She agreed that she would also be interessted. So we went out today but there was no show. :( It will be in November - one month too soon.

However - we had a nice day with Europe´s longest forest wall in this town http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burghausen,_Altötting There is so much history in this town. When you ever go to Munich, rent a car and travel that one hour to the austrian border to Burghausen and visit this great place. It´s just about 30 kilometres away from where I life. A great place.... :)

An old Powdertower ...

Some fortress pics

Bavarian fall landscape :)

One of the knives I had with me

the other knife that was with me

the mainbuilding of the fortress

My Better Half - almost pretty pregnant :)

Me... nothing more to say...

The link I added there about the history of this nice town is quiete interessting, if you are interessted in history :)

Comments are welcome, as always!

Glad you still enjoyed your outing... very nice scenery! :-)

You know I love the views of your country!! Exquisite! Your wife is radiant!! Congratulations,my friend. I look forward to the sword sojourn.

Something is missing!?... Ahh, I know what it is... a Heckler & Koch MP-5 to go with that hat of yours! ;-) Question..... How common is traditional pocket knife carry now in Germany. Germany, just like Britain, supplied so many to America as exports/imports... just wonder if the traditional knife carry is also going way of the DoDo. Are there many trad pocket knife makers left over there (that actually make them there, and not in China)? Thanks :-)

Good pics Andi!

I loved the old history and cites in Germany. Like the old walled fortress city of Rothenburg. Sooooo muchhistory there in the old country. It was fun to walk the ramparts of a wall that was built before America was settled.

I hope that the carry of knives in Germany is still going on. When I was there a long time ago, it wasn't unusual for someone to have a nice automatic. I remember once sitting in a small pub/restaurant down by the Swiss border, and the guy sitting at the next table was having some wurst for lunch. I wasn't really payibng him any mind, then I hear a snick sound, and he had opened a lever style black jigged Boker automatic to cut his wurst, not liking the dull table ware. I know what it was because I loved to see someone using something that was a no-no here in the U.S. He was more than willing to show his knife, and he spoke good English and we had a conversation about knives. It was so cool to meet another knife nut over beer and bratwurst.

I hope Germany has not changed to much!

Carl.

@Jimmy: The Scout knife is made by GEC. It´s in the same frame like the #15 Boys Knife or the Mighty Charlow. Well, the H&K cap I got as a prize when I was at a shooting contest with the pistol P30. It was a fun day, too.

@Gev: I know you like the pics about Germany. :) It´s actually pretty nice here. I told my wife what you said; she said "Thanks a lot to the man :)

@Carl: The history in the "old part of the world" is big. On many places you can see these documents of centuries long passed.

@ Carl and Jimmy: It´s not uncommon that people here carry pocket knives, nowadays mostly SAKs. At the "older" generation Hartkopf, Schlieper, Hubertus etc etc are still much in use and not really collectibles. The younger generation carries one handers, though they are declared as weapons here. I know several people that carry a knife. Not everyday but frequently. In this case Germany hasn´t changed that much over the years. (Fortunatelly)

Fortresses and castles... I'm jealous that European houses are so much larger and more interesting than my old Victorian shack. :)

I'd love to visit and see the history. The fall colors look nice too.

Andi, I'm a history nut and I loved both the link and your pictures. I also second what Gev said, "Your wife looks radiant" I remember when my wife was pregnant with both our boys and she had that radiant look to her as well.

Take care Andi and again thanks for the post.

Paul

I Love some Motorhead! Lots of folks here love some HK goodness. I'm a bit of an old fashioned wheel gun and 1911 guy myself.

BTW, nice pics. Tell your wife to not be to hard on you. ;)

Great pics. Thank you so much for sharing. I absolutely love history and would love to visit there some day.
