Hi Guys, I'm sorry that I dont post more. I really do enjoy all the posts and this incredible knowledge base. Now for my question. I bought a grinder and buffer from an older fellow that had given up knives. I was admiring a set of horns on top of a cabinet. He said it came from Germany, called it red stag. Would this make good handle material or is it to spongy inside. I hate to cut it up just to look inside and it be crap.
Thanks

Howdy There....!
Can't say that I have used any red stag, but have used everything else. It can't be any worst than elk, that stuff is extremely poreoues. I would say give it a try, have use some "foulo deer" antler and they are some type of forgien deer, they worked but were very thin in the hard bark covering. Good luck and give it a try.

Hi Mark, all of the European antlers I've yet tried look real nice from the outside, but have a very thin layer of antler then inside it's all sponge. The amount of work needed to fill them with epoxy etc just doesn't seem worth it. Might work for a stick tang design though...
