Yes it's a tv series. But people are always talking about SHTF scenarios. What got me from the start was that the Walking Dead main group never hit a gun store for semi or auto weapons. Damn, even a Ruger 1022 with high capacity magazines would have been better that splitting a head a with a crow bar or whatever. And why drive those rust bucket trucks with everything laying around ? Why sleep\live on the ground ? I doubt that the zombies can climb. Again, it's a tv series trying to highten tension. But with a suspension of disbelief at the scenario and simply watching their moves, they could make better decisions.

Ever notice how most of the men never need to shave or get dirty??

Its far from realistic and is and always will be intended to get people to watch it and then return next week to watch it again

That is what the advertisers are looking for

also remember most of the people watching it are not gun and knife trained and think everything the survivors do is actually realistic

Just entertainment

But, but...

I'm neither gun or knife trained and I don't think everything the survivors do is actually realistic.

For the evaluation part... stop being so rational! :D My theory is that all the rational folks died out, hence why they are being so stupid

I sit and wonder how many of the homes they drive by might have housed sportsmen with their firearms and ammo- maybe even reloading supplies. Myself- I have a Dillion RL550B in my basement, dies for common cartridges. It is fun entertainment though- with the required drama thrown in.
My wife is from the Philippines and is amazed how we Americans love our zombies!!! LOL!

I really like how none of the vehicles has been fitted with steel cages over the windows? Just hole up in a garage for a few days and break out a welder to harden those things up a little. Darryl riding his hog in the open is inspiring ;)

I can never remember the name but the Brits did a post pandemic series that I liked much better- much more realistic.

They've mentioned several times that they prefer melee weapons to guns, as the walkers* are attracted to noise. There was one episode a while ago where they showed this; someone panicked, used their gun, and swarms of walkers showed up.

But yeah, it's entertainment, and watching people mow down walkers from range wouldn't be as interesting or dramatic as watching them get into the (sometimes brutal) hand-to-hand combat.

*anyone else notice that they never actually seem to call them zombies, just "walkers" or "biters"?

It's pure entertainment. If people were rational, the show wouldn't be near as interesting for most folks.

I do have to wonder how they explain APC's being taken by "walkers"... I guess the guys had to take a leak and got out?

I can see a guy in a K9 training "bite" suit teasing the zombies ;)

Realistically on the writer's side of the series they can't sit down and make 100% sure that every decision and circumstance is as close to what someone would and could do in every situation even if it sacrifices story and entertainment, besides the fact that I doubt the show's writing staff is trained in tactical situations. They probably have a consultant or two but consultants are not writers. If every single decision, dialogue, and move of the show focused on realism the show might not be as entertaining as you'd think.

Also note, it's based on a comic book...

Still my favourite tv show, dang long weekend messed my internal clock and I missed the last episode:grumpy:

A lot of people don't remember that this was a graphic novel first. The original was far more graphic/funny/twisted/dark/ and artistic then the tv series. The writers in translating the show and making it more "acceptable and consumable" to mass audiences seemed to try and make things more beleivable and in doing so made it less believable if it was even believable is the first place.

I enjoy the show but I liked last season a lot better when the shane/rick dynamic was there. But the twisted "settlement" is pretty great.

A show about zombies being far from realistic? LOL.
Its my favorite show along with Big Bang theory. I like the idea of turning a prison into a compound. Now, what happened to Carol. I hope shes OK.

IMO - Carol is fine and they are setting up the romance between her and hillbilly dude (forgot his name).

I do wonder if she found Lori and is nursing her (now that someone else suggested it)

this was one of my questions. turns out the show and the comic took place in a world without a zombie culture:rolleyes: so to them this is a complete surprise.

we tho in our world, would know what is going on and how to deal with it because of threads/movies/books/tv shows/comics.

it was one of the things the writers explained on talking dead in the first season.

hell, every body's got a zombie plan anymore. they're just not sure what to do in a snow storm:eek:.

The one thing that has bothered me is where are all the dogs? Surely some dogs would have survived, the walkers are pretty slow and I am sure they stink to high heaven so wouldn't it be hard for the walkers to have killed every single dog in the whole south? Seems to me that by now the larger dogs would have gone feral packed up and started dragging down walkers as food.

I would just build a moat around my house and garden. Go medieval on those walkers...
