:D

I'm slowly getting there on the Kogotanas.

Hand sanding setup - granite surface plate, windex, sandpaper... gets a flat grind very flat! I'm also using stones on some for finishing.

Camp Knives! I'm thinking about doing a sign up for these, let me know if you are interested! They are saber chisel ground.

Just a fun pic... I was gong through my scraps thinking of bolster and liner ideas

Those Kogotanas look like they are going to be wicked little slicers! The camp knives ,well.....I'm just kinda speechless.

For the handles how about micarta spacers to look sort of like rayskin (samé) and a traditional wrap on top of it with flat parachord (if that exists).

Which steel are these? I'm not a steel snob but I couldn't help myself from asking.

VERY cool, Daniel!
How much $$ for the kogo's? And, will you offer All Black?

Thanks! I sharpened one of the kogotanas for testing and it was nuts!

make backspacers from the scrap too. maybe even thin scales for the kogotanas.

Will do! I have one set of twill scales with bolsters in thee!

I already know I want one. Sign me up.

Sounds good... :D

That would be cool! I'm not sure if I can do a wrap with the hole configuration but it gets me thinking...

.125" A2 for the Kogotanas and .187" O1 for the Camp Knives...

Thanks! I'm not sure yet but they won't be too much, all black sounds like a plan!

I consider doing G10/micartaon most, maybe copper on the large one.

Trailing Point in .27" 5160 steel!

Wabocho money shot... the heel profile.

Carter inspired Wabocho

Either a Ko Deba or a Tall Petty... I'm not sure yet! :D

The Control room!

Daniel- if I'm on the list for one I'd be happy to chat offline about handles/finishing. I'd love s more traditional look!

So many knives.....so little money.
Lets all hope for more money! :D

That silver twill would make some nice bolsters.

That's a plan, I'm using it with the blue twill and black G10 liners on a kogotana.

Daniel,
What's the steel on the Carter Wabocho?

Carter inspired Wabocho - 52100 steel, refined for fine grain structure and around 61-62 RC.

I have three of them going, each one a but different from the next. My designs are influenced by Murray Carters new book on knife design and I will be using his method of keeping a template then refining it as I go. You leave a bit of variation to each knife then pick the best one as the basis for the next batch. I started with a basic template in his book and now have my own take on the classic design. I made some "batches" in paper first, picked the best then went through several in steel.

I'll be sticking to 52100 as my carbon steel, the properties are the best! One good thing is that it does not seem to stain food like most high carbon steels. I haven't done a lot of testing as far as staining goes but noticed and after research found this was common. The fine grain enables a thin and tough long lasting edge. The heat treat process I use (pretty much the standard for 52100 knives.... no hokey heat treat here) takes all day but I feel is worth it.

I still want to try AEB-L out for a stainless option, it sounds great.

Daniel- Will you make a V ground Deba with SS?

It could happen! I eventually want to make a few large Debas. I have the Ko Deba (smaller one) on the way, the first one is turning out awesome!

I just ordered some steel for more kitchen knives a second ago. I have more 52100 and some AEB-L coming in! The stock is thin, .070" for the AEB-L and 3/32" for the 52100.

I also have 8' of 5160 coming in for more 'dashis!

The AEB-L is going to rock,it is supposed to be the best stainless out there for kitchen knives. It was engineered for razor blades and takes a thin razor sharp edge. I'm thinking double plungeless ground Pettys and paring knives along with Gyuto and Wabachoi!

WANT that trailing point, bad!:D I'm loving that point design. And one of those behind your hand in that pic. And...

Waroto1, Daniel's silver twill is awesome. I have it on a little tanto and it's freakin' beautiful. Really purdy and a great texture to boot.
