So, I met up with J Curd today and did some shopping. Not huge, but I snagged a blue Scallion, an all-black Scallion, and a Sapphire.

The all-black Scallion (1620BLK) wasn't as sharp as I'm used to Kershaws being right out of the box, but it cut paper readily. I'm glad to see the black pocket clip and screws on it. The thumb studs and liners are stainless, not black. Made in October of 2007.

The blue Scallion (1620BL) came really sharp, and opened quicker than the black one. The blue anodized aluminum gives it a nice Look. Made in January of 2008.

The discontinued Sapphire (1450) came the sharpest. No SpeedSafe. Nice anodized titanium handles. I'll put up an individual review for it soon. There were two left, and I let J Curd get the nicer one (his still had the clear plastic on the handles, and mine had a bit of gunk inside it). No date of manufacture is marked anywhere on the knife.
EDIT: Review added here... http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=6129285#post6129285

I'm pretty satisfied with my selection for today; I really wish Kershaw would make the Scallions in steel other than 420HC or damascus.

Maybe J Curd would like to add his recent additions to this thread?

Ended up being an expensive day:

Nakamura - I think they are discontinued, so it was kind of a no brainer. Not really my style of knife when I had previously considered buying one, but I opened the box and went "Woah, a classic style dress knife with modern design and quality materials"

R.A.M. 1 of 500 - ...yeah, everyone shutup, I finally broke down :D I'll figure out how to make it work...the grip is still a bit small for my hands, but its just cool, so what can I say...probably wont be in the EDC lineup often, but I have one (lots of knives in this category).

Sapphire - sweet light and dressy knife, I really like it. Sharpest AUS-8 knive I've owned, and nice thin flat ground blade that should be excellent for keeping shaving sharp. They had been there for a while, even the one I got had some scratches on the back scale, neither had boxes...it isnt collection grade, and will likely be carried and used.

and....a pretty jacked up used Tyrade.

The Tyrade needed cleaned up ALOT (95% cleaning, 5% wear). Not pristine, but 90-95% new condition. I will probably just keep it until it gets to Random Task rarity then sell it. Tip down only, blah!

I had fun. Cool to meet someone from the forums. Not sure Id sign up for a knife fight with JNieporte :)

The Ener-G was just too small for me, and the larger Ener-G II wasnt quick to open (probably needed broken in). I did like the hollow ground blades...alot...

kinda glad i couldnt make it today guys...i dont have enough money to treat a girl to the dollar menu at McDonalds, let alone by myself a nice new kershaw :D :p

seriously though, sometime this winter (when my schedule will actually be open and i should have money) we will all have to get together and such.

Glad yall had a good safe trip!

Technique, grasshopper! I'll bet ya a dollar I can take a new one outta the box and open it as fast if not faster than any SpeedSafe you own, first flip! ;)

And they are incredible slicers! I'd love to see a hollow ground ZDP CB on these!

Where did you shop at?

Cecil Clark Knife Works in Newport, Kentucky. Their website is BladeMatrix.tv if you're interested.

A lot of the knives I was looking for (Needs Work, Oso Sweet, damascus Scallion, composite Shallot, G-10 Leek, etc.) were out of stock. But I was able to settle for two Scallions and a Sapphire for under $100, so I'm happy.

On the list, in order of importance: G-10 Leek with half-serrated S30V blade (no, still didn't buy it), G-10 Leek, CPM-110V Shallot, composite Shallot, damascus Scallion, Zing, Needs Work with black blade, Oso Sweet.
Maybe a military boot knife so I can have that knife fight with J Curd next time we meet up. Offsetlover; you in?

Guess my next purchase is a sword...

You can use mine if you promise to wipe the blood off it afterwards. I can deal with a cut or a stab, but please don't ruin my good carbon steel blades by getting plasma and white blood cells on the metal.
