Hey there,

I'm looking to get more hands on with my heat treat processes. So I'm hovering over the confirm button on this 120v heat treat oven but I just need a little reassurance. For those who have this oven already, do you have any problems with it reaching max temp? I currently do not have the resources to use a 240v, so this is about all I can do.

Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I have one and am pleased with the purchase. If I had a complaint, it would be the time it takes to reach the upper temperatures, but it does get there. For example, my D2 ht profile looks like this:

Heat to 1200 F and equalize for 15 minutes.
Heat to 1450 F and equalize for 15 minutes.
Heat to 1850 F and soak for 20 minutes.

That entire process takes about 2 hours and 25 minutes. The 240V model would likely speed that up. That being said, I am happy with the kiln and the fact that I can plug it in almost anywhere (though a dedicated circuit is best). I would purchase this model again.

I have the 120V 418, have been nothing but happy with it. I tend to incorporate slow ramps into my heat-treats anyway, so the slightly slower heats are not an issue.

For instance when heat-treating A2, I limit the ramp after pre-heat to 1000ºF/hr. I get excellent results with that heat-treat.

The type of steels that you are intending to heat treat need to be considered before buying. A lot of the stainless blade steels require ca. 2,000 degree levels and I believe the 120v unit would struggle to get there in any reasonable time.

It can be done, I've had mine up to 2100ºF+, but you're correct in that the heat rate definitely slows down at the higher temperatures.
