Evenheat kiln questions........controller? Best price?

I'm getting ready to invest in my next substantial piece of shop equipment. I haven't decided which yet, but it will be either a Beaumont horizontal 2x72 grinder, or an Evenheat Kiln so I can do my own heat treating.

My questions are about the Evenheat. Is there a substantial difference between the set pro controller and the rampmaster? Is the rampmaster worth the added cost? Also, big expenses are tough to pull off these days. I've been a loyal customer of Tracy's at USA Knifemaker, but are there other retailers out there where I could get a better deal on an Evenheat?

Thanks!

Call Alpha Knife supply and talk to Chuck . I have two Evenheat ovens and love them !! Chuck is the guy to get them from . Don't know the answer to your question , just know they are awesome . I have there 8x18 that go up to 2400 degrees Fahrenheit. I recommend the extra range because some of these new alloys require some high temps and and who knows what the future will bring. I can also play with melting glass and porcelain inlays and other tricks.

Morning Jon,

We use an Evenheat kiln with the Set Pro control and have found it to be more than adequate.

I would suggest getting a quote from everyone who sells them.

They may have stock they want to move & give you a better price.
Be aware of shipping - that can change everything.

Thanks guys!

Ken, I get tons of supplies from Chuck so that's a great suggestion. I didn't even realize he sold ovens.
I'll be talking with him today:thumbup:

I got mine with the rampmaster, and shipping from USA Knifemakers Supply tho the Deep South Texas was around $95. I love mine!

I went with the Rampmaster too and really like it. Makes programming quick and easy. Plus you can multiple programs set for different things like HT then one for tempering and can recall them with the press of a button.

I wonder if they will sell you just the control? That way if you built your own oven you would have a kick butt control.

Thanks guys, gonna go with an 18" 240V model with the Rampmaster. I really like the fact that you can program all of your different steel settings into the Rampmaster for easy access.

Appreciate the info.

The Rampmaster is well worth the added expense. ($100 or so IIRC)

I'd order it from Alpha. I ordered mine elsewhere, and had issues. Wish I had simply placed an order with Chuck.

You may want to consider the 27" model; it's not that much more. I have a 27" and it's great for long choppers/wakis.

Are you ordering it from chuck? I couldn't find any info saying he sold them, does he have them in stock? I figured shipping would be a lot more reasonable from Washington to Oregon!
