Yesterday I got a very nice surprise by the postoffice. A vey nice friend here from the forums has sent me a....
But first the start of the story.
In a thread at least a half year ago about campknifes of the traditional american way to do the pattern I expressed my admiration for a old campknife Kamagong were using and also wrote a little about how difficult it sometimes is to get the hands om desirable knifes all the way from Sweden.
Last week to my pleasant surprise I got a mail from Christian, Kamagong. that he not only had remembered my post but also had serched/hunted down such a knife I was dreaming about, a campknife with carbon steel, bail and bonehandles.
....UTICA NY cutmaster. To my great joy it was a wellused knife but in good condition. I have notised that the size is almost identical to a SAK for ex an alox soldier and even if it not quite up on par with the quality of a Viktorinox its no doubt its a wellmade knife and it has the aura of "soul" that the swissknifes lack to me.
It will need a tour in my workshop as its very dull and little wobbly in the blade. I think that the previous owner never sharpened the knife and that the use of souch a dull blade made him use a little to much force when kutting. Also the awl and the canopener is dull a way I cant almost melieve but this is a smaller problem as I have all the tool needed to get this blades shawing sharp again and a wise to pusch the liners together. The owner must have ysed it more than he carryed it as the bone isnt much woren at all.
From what I have learned here on the forums this is not a knife that is to rare to be mended or used so I will honor this gift from Kamagong with as much use I can give it, but with respect that this knife didnt find me without troubble and kindness.
I will report back to you how it works on dry meat and butter during my moosehunt the closest mounths, and just mabye how it feels to open a throut or two with it when I have my fishing weekend in early october.
