Anyone every been pulled over or approached by a copper, knowing full well that you are packing illegally (auto in a non-auto state, size limit, etc) or legally? How did that turn out? It sounds like a lot of people carry autos in places they aren't supposed to be. Autos already have a negative stigma attached (thanks James Dean).

I got frisked when I was a young teen and found carrying a spyder police, and the cop actually told me that it was illegal, that it was for "police use only". I managed to get off. I figure if you don't look too much like a hoodlum and act resonably polite, you will be ok.

What are some of your experiences.

I have only had 1 interaction with an LEO while carrying a knife. I was carrying legally and engaged in freshwater fishing (from the shore) at the time. The officer was a Farmington, CT local LEO. He seemed to care more about the hoodlums in the parking area near the lake/pond than myself. Just gave a nice hello, and took a quick glance at my fishing license, and that of the couple other guys that were fishing. Didn't say one word about the knife (which was LEGAL), and in plain view.

This is kind of interesting here.

I am not in the habit of carrying anything illegal so I can't address that issue but I do have some comments about legal carry that I would like to share. I have worked the counter at a minimart that is a regular stop for LEO's(county and CHP, plus thousands more in April). I always have a knife in my pocket. Let me repeat that, I always have a knife in my pocket. So I appear to have been aproached my a "couple" of coppers at one time or another. I also have another job that puts me in close contact with federal LEO's and as I have stated before, I always have a knife in my pocket. The only interest showed was that one of the fed guys had to check out the Nimravus Cub that was on my belt, and inform me that his Benchmade was an auto. I think that most "coppers" are comfortable around a pocket knife or even a belt knife as long as it isn't out of context or obviously illegal. I do think that it is a good idea to leave the damn knife in your car or house if you plan on drinking. And figure out a little bit about the laws that pertain to you before you assume anything is legal or illegal, CA for instance allows any size folder to be carried concealed, while a fixed blade of any size must be in the open. If you are following the rules you don't have to worry about LEO's.
