Ever buy a knife just because of the sheath?

Buy a knife "just" because of the sheath? No way. I'm a knife nut, not a sheath nut. Has an excellent sheath helped push me over the edge and open up my wallet? You betcha! A quality sheath designed to aesthetically compliment the knife it houses is a real plus. I would be a fan of Burt Foster or Rodrigo Sfreddo or Ed Caffrey even if their knives came with basic Rowe only. But the care and attention they lavish upon their sheaths - in terms of materials, design and quality - makes a purchase from them that much more appealing.

I find that a sheath that compliments the knife makes for a complete package. I know that many people don't care for sheaths and find that they just take up space in a box or drawer, but I feel that a top quality sheath completes the package.

I am a folder guy, But I can appreciate the "art" in a sheath as much as the knife.

As Keith said, It makes a total package.

Even now with Kydex and the like, a handcrafted leather sheath adds SO much to the whole experience.

To answer your question, No I have never bought because of the sheath.
I have not because of one, though.

Probably the knives that Dan Winkler made for me along with Karen shook's sheaths influenced my desire to buy this great Mastersmith's knives.

What a pair of icons!

Probably the knives that Dan Winkler made for me were, part and parcel, a lot influenced by the sheath that came with the knife.

Same with me RWS. I think to a great extent, when you buy a Winkler you are buying the Winkler/Shook package.

I may not have gone for my Fisk Ivory Bootknife if not for the sliver sheath. The combination just made it a very unique and special piece.

cant say I have bought a knife because of the sheath , but I have passed on many because they didnt have any sheath....

Sounds like picking out a woman for the car she drives? It is nice pairing them up, but the sheath and car should come later.
