I have, because despite my dislike or distaste, they were still the best product for what I needed.

Thoughts and other experiences?

No. It's a matter of principle. I can think of two people on this forum I won't buy from; and I'm sure their products click all the right boxes.

Interesting.

I thought it a matter of principle too, but I am practical too.

I don't like BCM for my own reasons and their fanatic fan boys don't help my feeling but I'm planning to buy their KMR key mod rail because it's the lightest rail on the market.

I have some of their other products but either it was an unintentional purchase or another company made it but they market it (vltor)

Shades of grey I suppose. Some companies/people I don't like but I can hold my nose if needed and they haven't really done me wrong. Others (strider for instance) I wouldn't have anything in my house with their name on it under any circumstances. Part of it is if I simply disagree with them or if I think they are scum. Can't tolerate scum like strider.

Nope.
I will buy such a thing on the secondary market, but if I have a problem with somebodys ethics or behavior I won't give them my $$.

I agree, shades of grey if they haven't done anything wrong to me or shady business.

But there are companies out there that perhaps just rub you the wrong way?

Or perhaps the fan boys of the company rub you the wrong way?

I agree with Ohen that there are different levels. I have a few I would absolutely NEVER give my money to even on the secondary market. Fortunately most of the ones I dislike that much I can find something from a different brand that is as good or will meet my needs as well. Then there are the ones, apple is a good example, where I like some of their products but the "fanboys" and the companies marketing practices of lies about their usability make me dislike the company. Yet they aren't so egregious, that I still have an ipod and use it regularly because it is the best tool available. Each of us decides how important a particular item is vs the way we feel about that company. Then we either get something else or suck it up and justify it to ourselves. But I REALLY prefer when I can get a wonderful tool I love from a company that I not only like but who's practices and beliefs I can wholeheartedly endorse and feel wonderful about supporting... like HI :)

As a rule I will not own anything from makers or companies who lie, scam's their customers or otherwise treat people badly.
Life is to short to have knives in my collection with bad Karma like that. I can live happily without them.
Fortunately the above makes up a tiny percentage of the knife world.

Some of the best people I have ever met in my life have been through knives and knife collecting and I am always amazed just how generous, considerate and kind most knife people are.
This forum and the company it represents is a perfect example of just how brilliant our little community is.:)

Well Said, Apple is a good example

Some stuff you just really need and if there is only one provider in your area you can be a beggar but not a chooser. Be it Internet, electricity or water. All very suckey were I live.
How to vote with my wallet? No way in an almost monopoly. Gotta love huge corporations who don't need to compete :-D
True one could give up the house and move but luckily it's not thaaat bad. Thus I'll continue buying from them even if I don't like them.
Maybe after having our solar cells we'll drill a well now. That will show them. Not. :-)

I totally agree with you about BCM. I bought their products in the past, but their fanboy craze rubs me the wrong way. BCM has had their share of issues, especially with bad uppers. A Windham Weapons AR will cost you under $800 and it will do everything the $1500 BCM will do.

I also own a Tavor and you should hear all the Styer AUG fanboys knock it. The Tavor is now the most successful bullpup ever made. The AUG has been around since 1978 yet the 2006 release TAR21 (military Tavor) has been adopted by dozens more nations than the AUG even though the AUG has been on the market for decades.

LaRue is one company worth the money. BCM is overpriced. I also like Midwest Industries. I have their SS 12.6 rail on my custom Bushmaster. Maine not garbage NY Bushmaster.

Likability is a factor in my decision-making when it comes to purchasing knives. But it's far from the most important factor. Even though I'd rather do business with people I like, reputation and value mean a whole lot more to me than whether or not I like them. So to answer the OP's question, have I bought knives from people and companies I don't particularly care for? Sure. Would I buy from them again? Sure.

Ever buy from someone or a company you didn't like? And why?

I like few companies or individual sellers. Most person or companies that I buy from simply don't get a like/dislike analysis.

I like the guy who runs a produce store near us. I pay a premium to support him.

I bought a multi-meter yesterday from Home Depot. I am not sure who I like that would have had that product on hand.

For most vendors, it's a matter of practicality combined with lack of any strong feeling.

Now I do have a list of vendors whom I dislike. Given any choice, I would never buy from Strider, the New York Times, Time-Warner, or Windstream. If I want internet service I have to buy from Windstream, which probably makes me dislike them even more. "Don't like our service because we lie about what we supply? Use the competition. :p"

The OP presents an interesting dilemma. If the best value is from a vendor whom you actually dislike and you actually need the product, what is gained by denying yourself the product that you need? Not an X vs. 0 problem. Is it important that the disliked vendor knows you will forgo the product because you dislike that vendor?
