Have you ever carried a knife to a place where you were not supposed to have one? There have been a few occasions when I did by accident. Once when I was in the 5th grade, me and my buddy were out in the woods hunting for small game with our pellet guns, that day I had my leather man multi tool in my pocket. The next day I wore the same pair of pants that I had left the knife in, and went to school. I didn't notice it was there until lunch time. It fell from my pocket when me and my best friend were playing basketball. It was only me and him, he had promised not to tell and nobody ever found out.

Share your stories and explain how and why they happened :)

I brought an ESEE 3 to court once, and the security guard was the nicest guy ever. Kept it in his office until I left. I had forgotten to leave it in the truck and would've been late if I had to go back to the parking garage.

Wow, here is a generational differences study in action. When I was growing up and was a young man into adult hood, there were NO places that I can think of that a knife was not supposed to be. There were some municipalities that had ordinances on the books regulating knife size for carry, however, I don't recall anyone taking them seriously when it came to pocket able knives. We carried our trappers and our Sod Busters and our Gerber Folding Sportsman and Buck 110's any place we pleased without thought. A common boys game in our middle school was mumbly peg. You mention a multi tool being a problem in your school....when I was in school, multi tools had not yet been invented, however we did have access to SAKs but generally thought of them as rather sissified, something that you might have in college just so you could have the cork screw when you needed it to entertain lady friends in your dorm room. I am 58 years old and grew up in the Chicago Suburbs and went to college in Champaign, IL The first time I was disallowed entry to anyplace for having a knife was the 7th district court house in Markham, IL in approximately 1995 when they put in metal detectors. I was very surprised that my Case Muskrat was not allowed entry, told them they were nuts and paid my traffic via the USPS. Second time was at the St. Louis Arch in 2005. I have not flown commercial since 2001 so that is not an issue for me. Ridiculous school rules have gotten our young men totally out of the habit of carrying a knife. I would not risk putting a knife in my pocket if I was subject to the draconian rules of schools today that is for sure but I would be a lesser person for it.

24/7. City laws prohibit carrying "any sharp object". And I edc a Military in my right back pocket and a Victorinox in my right front, a Juice S2 and a S&W HRT in my jacket and a Rajah II, Charge and Opinel in my backpack
:$

I forgot i had a Gerber LMF 2 in the bottom of the pack when I went on a trip to Istanbul. I use that same pack for hiking and didn't notice it when packing my clothes. I got it x-rayed upon entering Istanbul airport before checking it in. Nobody said anything and I only discovered it when I got back home :D

Took this totally harmless-looking knife on board a flight a few years ago:

>strange thing was, it was clipped to the outside of my backpack but went unnoticed by both me and the TSA.

Any day I carry a knife over 3.5".

So, basically always. It'll become even more consistent when I get my Mah Eraser back from Rival...

I carried a Victorinox Spartan every day in high school and I'm 1000% certain I wasn't allowed to. Didn't really think about it. Went straight to work afterwards where I often needed it. I've forgotten to leave my knife at home when I've gone to various sporting events and/or concerts over the years, and if I saw the security guard with a wand, I'd put the knife in my shoe until I crossed the threshold.

Nope. If it says no knife, I leave it in the car.

So far this is only the post office and court.

I forgot about the Manbug on my key ring as I slipped through security at the Court House. It kept me company during jury duty.

2006 I was refused admission to Six Flags NE thanks to the SAK Midnite Minichamp attached to my keys. I tried calmly pointing out that I could cause more harm with a ballpoint pen than the 1.5" blade. The funny thing was when the kid saw how I was gripping the pen he shot a panicked look at security and they demanded my freakin' pen too!

I went on a cruise to the Bahamas last march and took my tenacious with my. I specifically read all the rules and the only thing was you can't have a knife with a blade over 4 inches. On two speedster occasions they gave me a hard time for the knife. One guy on the ship even said I needed to leave it in my room or they would take it. I was pretty pissed that the employees didn't even know there own rules but I kept it to myself. I also brought my Buck 303 so I ended up carrying that the rest of the trip

I was going to check my bag onto an airplane and had an Opinel #8 in my shave kit. At the last minute I decided to carry on. I forgot all about it until the next morning when I got out the shave kit. I didn't want to risk losing it for nothing, so gave it to my brother before the trip home. Still can't see how it went through xray without being seen.

My wife and I flew to Alaska. We both just took carry-on's. I had my RAT 3 in my pack. I put it in the same pocket on the way back!! :D Got lucky twice!! I guess since I had it in a ziplock baggie--it was okay! :D

When I was also in fifth grade, I went to school the day after a Wednesday night boy scout meeting...where we often brought damn near our whole collections in our pockets to show off and trade after merit badges were earned...
Reached in the coat pocket while taking it off to hear/feel the jangle of like 8 or 9 Sak/lockbacks...
I hung my coat
No one touched it
I took my collection home and never made the same mistake again!

I don't think I told that to a soul either for fear of being labeled as crazy :disillusionment:

I carried a knife from the (if my memory serves correct) 5th or 6th grade till I graduated HS, even though it was against the rules. Got caught 9th grade or so (Spyderco Native, and SOG Aegis), but I was in trouble for something else and got searched. Received stern warnings and eventually received them back. I didn't learn rules very well, try at your own risk. Don't be ignorant, but use good judgment. Public HS is even more strict now, it's no laughing matter.
