I found that after the age of 50, I did a continuing downsizing of my stuff in general, knives and guns in particular. It was like a weird epiphany happened, and I looked at all the stuff and thought "what the hell and I doing with all this shite!?" Like waking up from a kind of temporary insanity. At one time I had enough knives to totally fill two shoe boxes. Now they are all in a medium size tobacco pouch.
I still love my knives, but not nearly as much, and a very pragmatic view took over. How many do I really need or can carry at one time? I sold off all my custom stuff, and most of the high end stuff. Some went to kids and nephews who showed an interest, but most got sold off. Now I keep just enough knives to have a rotation, but they all will fit in one hand if I try hard. About 8 to 10 knives. Almost all traditional pocket knives or SAK's.
I find that with less knives, I do appreciate the ones I have more, and use them more. I don't miss the ones I sold/gave away at all.
