Do you ever feel guilty about using your knife the wrong way or something along those lines?

I did this morning, I recently bought a kershaw od-1 and I went to martins this morning for a bisquit and went to go spread some jelly and noticed the forgot my spoon, so out comes the od-1 to save the day. But I normally carry a queen gunstock and felt bad because my normal edc wasn't there to fullfill our favorite past time! Ill be carrying both knives from now on.

Not really ... my EDC Kershaw ENER-G II was inexpensive (although it's very cool and excellent quality) so I wouldn't cry over harming it by using it in an inappropriate way - which I wouldn't consider spreading jelly to be, anyway. I wouldn't turn screws or open paint can lids with it, but I'd use it for anything that wouldn't obviously damage it.

My special purpose carry knives, all Busse's, particularly my Busse Skinny ASH-1 ... I don't think there is an inappropriate way to use. I would apply it to any task I could think of, with no fear that it would fail from it.

I DO feel guilty when I'm out and find a need for a knife ... say a difficult to open package or something ... and for some reason I have failed to have a knife with me. That makes me feel really stupid, having some 50 knives at home, but none on me when I need it.

I'd feel guilty if I'm using a knife to cut against something that will roll the edge instantly like ceramics or steel. For food use like spreading nutella or butter, I feel fine with it, I don't know about other guys but I use my knives on food alot, most of the time my knife comes out is for food or packaging for the food lol.

Depends on the knife. I have had to use some of my knives very hard on things I knew it wasnt made for. Luckily they all held up. I cant remember all of the circumstances but most of the time it was using the wrong tool for the job and I was either without that tool or too dang lazy to get the right one.

I know what you mean.;)

The other day I caught myself prying the battery from a phone with my ZDP Stretch II!:foot:

Well I immediately STOPPED.I envisioned the tip snapping off & everybody flaming me here.:D

I got it out with the screwdriver on my Leatherman.

Oh I know what you mean by the tip snapping off, first day I got my Buck 110, that happened to me. I was using the tip to clean out the dirt in something, I forgot what it was, but the durned thing snapped. I sent it to back and they brought him back to life1111

I just finished posting in another thread about a Victorinox SAK that I'd mistakenly left in a toolbox in the covered bed of my truck a while back. It stayed there for several years, exposed to the Texas humidity, before I re-discovered it. A few of the blades/tools were essentially rusted shut (this was my confirmation that even high quality 'stainless steel' will eventually rust, if neglected long enough). Had to drench the whole thing in WD-40 for a few days to loosen it up. I definitely felt guilty about that one...

Yes, if it might damage the edge or break the knife. Scratches don't bug me, neither do benign unorthodox uses.
