Every have an opinion on a knife, that, when you re-visit the knife, you find you were way off base? When the Buck Vantage series came out a few years ago, I bought all three levels on a whim, and hated them. I thought they were unfinished-feeling and awkward in hand, the flipper sucked, the liner was too thin, the scales too slick, and the quality really lacking; all three went to Buck for adjustment for the most common issues (lockup, centering, etc) and all three were sold as soon as they were returned.

Well, today, on a whim, I decided to check out the Vantage Pro at my local sporting goods store, and I was blown away. All the quality issues were addressed, the flipping action is fantastic, ergos are great, I could go on. So I picked it up and now I couldn't be happier. I don't know if my tastes have matured and I got better at flipping, if Buck has put more work into this model, or both, but this is one fine knife.

How about it? Anyone change their mind and find a new favorite?

I got a wrong knife from Torablades and nothing was done about it. I sold off all except one.

The Southard was the most memorable for me. When it came out, I saw the design and MSRP and thought it was the dumbest and ugliest knife ever.

Cut to six months later, and it's my favorite EDC.

when I first saw the survive knives necker I didn't like it. I did not think it looked like it would be comfortable to use. I got one in my hand and boy was I wrong. it feels great in my hand ( especially with a lanyard) and cuts very nicely. it's the sharpest knife ice ever used too
